Hi, does anybody know if there's a program (free or not free) that asks for a password in order to start up Windows XP, and unless the right password is entered at the prompt, it wont start up windows. Thanks.

If you dont have the password on XP, you wont get into the system........its not like Win98 where you can press escape....XP & 2K are far more secure

Most machines you can press del and go into your bios' setup and set a password there. It doesn's get more secure than that.

ah, but often times there is a jumper that clears the sytem password, so be careful

I had one on my windows 98 machine. I had to go into bios and set it up. If you didnt get the password after 3 guesses, it would make you shut it down. I havent tried it out on my other systems, but I dont really see why you would need one. If someone steels your computer, they will just throw away the hard drive if they cant get to it (IMHO).
