View Full Version : programming was great until c came along

I have a lot of experience in computers, I was even punching punch cards in the days before the internet was invented (1995-1996), we were all using infrared back then, but only at universities. and in my whole time as a computerist i have never once come across a scripting language worse than c (or some people call the version with the standard libraries c++) that makes it a bit better but it's still pretty awful. I can program in all the COBOL versions and I used to use Microsofts version of PC-DOS when they were underground, before they went mainstream. On PC-DOS they had a program called QBASIC, it was a lot like C but with some fundemental differences, QBASIC is what is known as a low-level langauge (like PERL and Chinese) all the early computer viruses were written in it and then this thing called assembly came along, assembly is a high level language because it communicates directly with the pc-speakers.

programming was great until c came along, everything was so much easier and we didnt have to worry about allocating memory or relocating binary digits in the iostream, as we called the monitor in those days. We could even directly interface with STDOUT (the keyboard) and this allowed for some great computer games such as the first ever computer game (pac man) which was shortly followed by tomb raider. then windows came out, 3.1 was the best windows version to date, it boasted multi-streaming (meaning two programs could use the same processor at exactly the same time) and also it was used in all the supercomputers. I remember writing many programs for that.

Ahhh those were the days.

The trick to trolling effectively is to be just convincing enough so that only experts will know that you are trolling. That way you get favorable reaction from everyone else.
