That's odd. Don't we have someone on Cprog who lives in china?

Yes, a few come to mind... although I can't remember their names. Perhaps search can help me... ahh here's one: http://cboard.cprogramming.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=2694

I just wonder why they chose google. I wonder if they block others? such as those that disagree with their politics.

Yeah - I don't know if the fox news story talks about it, but another one I read talks about all the blocking of the falun gong sites. Google was probably blocked because it's the best search engine out there, and provides redirects, too, IIRC.

At least they can still buy computers. Unlike the people of Cuba (http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,51270,00.html)

Chinese culture is already becoming Westernised, the Internet will make this even more true. I can't see how the Chinese government can expect to control the whole thing...well I can (by beating and jailing people) but I mean "where there's a will there's a way".

I think they chose to block the search engines that have search funtions in different languages.
