I have Win ME and it did the exact same thing after I installed Photoshop 6 today. My advice is to get a REAL good boot disk, scan, look at registry, and all that...

Hope it helps.:D

XP has BSOD after all!!!

Ok to solve this.. boot your computer in safe mode..(you know how.. press f8 on start up and select safemode from the menu).. I am sure that safe mode work properly since it does not load many drivers and files which might be causing the problem..

Then go to start -> programs -> accessories -> system tools -> system restore

Now when u click this.. click restore computer and next after that u get a calendar and the restore points.. Select the date when your computer was working fine and click restore.. And on the next boot up your computer should work fine.. But beware all the programs u installed after the date shown in the calendar will not be available when the computer restarts...

Fountain and netboy how about you don't insult my inteligence. I can sleep through the instellation of XP. In fact I did. The shere fact that I was able to infom to the best of my knowlege th problem, and the fact that I gave the error code proves that I do know what I'm talking about.

vasanth I chose safe mode and still my computer rebooted.

civix, I'll try that

hermit, that might be it.

You forgot the first rule of owning a MS OS, you must fully reinstall every 6(or 3) months to 2 years(maximum), otherwise things slowly(or quickly) degrade.

seriously; check for bad HW.

.... but after some rebbots when the computer starts then go in for the restore option as explained above.. that might solve the problem...

Hermit I think your right, My bloody room has been hoter then anywere else in the world. It's cool right now and It only took 2 boots to get up.

Ok since my car just broke I have nearly no monney so I need the most inexpensive way to cool my computer. I think I only need to knock off 10 degres so any sugestions would be apprecated.

put a small fan at the back of the computer, that's what i do, but not pointing at it though, becuase then it will send the heat right in, put it in a 90 deg angel with the fan in the back of the CPU, that drpos the temp by a lot, wee it did for me!

or even better, do what I do:

remove the covers! [the case] looks better this way.

you can also do this to your toaster. just don't stare at it when it's on. :)

> remove the covers! [the case] looks better this way.

Not the greatest idea - Keep in mind that the case was designed to use the airflow channeled with the case sides on.

08-05-2002, 01:46 PM
I suppose so but it seems better for me since my surrounding environment is around 70F when my a.c. is on.

08-05-2002, 04:34 PM
heres how,

1. open one side of case, preferably one with the cpu facing out.

2. place large house fan on side where case was, that is now open.

3. turn to high

Too bad microsoft doesn't offer nitrogen cooling systems, they could kill a lot more people that way.

(And, if they could get them to sign their insurance over to them, and buy a mortuary and "hire" a coroner, then they could boost sales by a lot!)

la la la. try to be of help and ppl think you are insulting their intelligence.

hmmm, maybe if you hadnt have SLEPT through the installation, you wouldnt have missed the siren saying this is not compatable.

just a thought.:)

As for cooling, i have one case fan-not at 90 degrees i may add, and a big sink rated at 2ghz....i run a 1900xp, so my sink is ample...temp never runs over 45 degrees(ish).

08-05-2002, 04:51 PM
just as i posted the above I saw inquirers post.....

yep, another slag off m/s,jump on the bandwagon, uneducated person...........

If you install XP correctly-Tell me a better home os, you will be ok. I want proof of stability etc etc....for YOUR choice of NON M/S os.Oh damn-you cant...so dont slag childish one

Sorry the first thing XP does is cheak for compatablity. My computer is less then a year old I've installed windows mutlible times on diffent computers. Including one that was done in school durring my A+ certifican class.

This heat is bringing my CPU to 49 degres. Stupid heat. I guess I need another case fan or two that I can't afford.

case fans doesn't cost that much do they?

OK I know the problem has something to do with drivers. My video card driver to be more excect. At least thats the driver windows complaind about after getting it to start once.

I have the latest driver. Windows 98 also seemed to have problems with it.
I'm using an Athlon xp chip for my proceser.

Don't overlook the possibility of a hardware problem. A cpu overheating can cause the sort of trouble you describe. In fact, a cpu overheat can cause the strangest malefunctions. Even just a little on the warm side can act up.

Other hardware can do odd things too. A couple months ago I had symtoms exactly like yours. You know what it was? My mouse went bad! Something in the cord. Like to drove me nuts trying to find the problem. It would work for a while and then start messing up again. Freezes, blue screens and once a full reboot without warning.

Good luck with your problem. Kevin

Hey i dont know if u got ur blue screen thing fix or not.. but anyway. i had the same problem and its due to the virtual memory of you computer. if you messed with it its probably because of that and if u didnt then its microsoft that sucks. Windows XP has a few bugs on it and that blue screen with the error code is onee of the major ones. the easiest way around is installing a fresh copy of windows xp on your system. And for the cooling problem..just go buy a small CPU fan for 5 bux and place it inside or at the back of your comp.
