Alright I thought that since there are so many new and great games out I would start this thread and see what people like the most so from best to worst...

1] Warcraft III
2]Half-life(The whole series;) )
3]DoD Mod for Half-life(Yes it does deserve it's own number)

Now for the worst ones...

1]The Sims and all things related to it like the sequals
Need I say more?

WHAT ABOUT COUNTER-STRIKE?? ARE YOU MAD?? Counter-Strike has been the most popular multiplayer game ever, but its nice to have broadband and get good pings on it ;)

Best

1] Elite (through rose-tinted specs)
2] Virtua Fighter 2 (for the amount of time spent playing)
3] Some online multiplayer (to pass the time)

Worst

1] Most games (that I play for about an hour at most and never look at again)

1] Warcraft 3
2] Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault
3] Return to Castle Wolfenstein
4] Counter-Strike

Worst? I don't know... I don't really pay attention to them.
Can't wait for Battlefield 1943... that game is going to own everything.

oh, this is how its gonna be, eh?

1] Counter-Strike
2] Red Alert 2
3] Starcraft - old, but still good

Worst -- freedom force. I liked the idea, but they spend too much time on graphics and not enough time on gameplay. I do admit its fun to pick up cars, telephone boxes, poles, etc and whack not only criminals, but by-standers too :D

Oh, and that game 'Alice'...*shivers*. The designer of that game must have done a few cones before he did it...

Spiderman sucked too. I liked the Mega-Drive spider man game better than the new PC one

I hate online RPGs... and shoot 'em up games too for that matter. Not that I play games much anyway.

The best in my book are the classics:
Chuckie Egg(DOS)
Pacman(DOS)
Pong(DOS)
Super Mario Bros. (SNES) *
Duck Hunt (NES)*
Sim City(Windows)
Lemmings (Windows)
Worms(Windows)

The worst:
RPGs/shoot 'em ups. Funny that.

*Sorry about these two. :)

>>> Super Mario Bros. (SNES)

Hell yeah! Best game ever. Why did they have toi screw it with all that 3d stuff...

Pendragon
07-12-2002, 06:34 PM
I've never played on anything other than the SNES and the SNES emulator. The 3D version does looks pretty crap though.

The original Super Mario Kart was good too.. before the N64 released the 3D version.

*Grrr!* More people putting down the RPGs... I'm telling you there's gonna be some bannings around here soon!

;)

Best:

1) Diablo II

Worst?

Anything Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy 1-7 (after that the series gets not so good). FF6 is the greatest. Diablo 2 is really good as well, if only I had the energy to play my Amazon instead of coding. Baldur's Gate games are pretty good, lame character models though. NWN is incredible, pure and simple genius. And there is always Simcity 2000 :)

SilentStrike

On the PC

1) Starcraft
2) Unreal Tournament
3) Quake 3 Arena
4) Return to Castle Wolfenstein

On the console

1) Final Fantasy 3
2) Street Fighter 2

As for RPG's they rule, I loved Morrowind and I also like shooter games like Halo, that kicked ass.

playing Civ2 from the time I got home from school until it was time to start getting ready for school again were the days...ahh the great times. i swear i would play civ2 at least for 10 hours a day for the first month i had it. i was OBSESSED

then again playing extremely competitive Madden games against my brother every year on the whole series were fun as well. madden 2000/2001 were the best two years in terms of the competition. i have no idea how my controlers never broke during those two years.

the only two games i've really been playin as of late are:

halo
world series baseball

i've been especially playing wsb.

oh yeah and ken griffery jr. baseball for the 64 was a great game too. same with a whole bunch of other games.

best racing game ever = tog gear 2 (for the snes)

and sim city (for the snes) was great too
and mario bros (for the snes and 64) are awesome
nba live 95 was the best basketball game ever
street fighter 1 & 2 (for the snes)

btw civ3 sucked a@@ compared to civ2 in my opinion. the only better thing about civ3 is the go-to algorithm and that's about it.

What a bunch of wimps:) It's all about rogue, nethack, and moria baby. Also some Sierra games, as long as they are more than 10 years old.

Grand Theft Auto 3
Morrowind
Grand Turismo 1,2,3
Quake 3 Arena
Medal of Honour (Although it's on the linear side)
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Unreal Tournament
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2,3

TOTAL CRAP:

CIA Operative - Solo Missions

The best console games:

1) Street Fighter 2 Turbo Edition, Snes, OMG that game ROCKED.

2) Tekken 2, Playstation, the only other beatem-up to come close to SF2.

3) Final Fantasy 7, Playstation, AMAZING storyline.

4) Sonic the Hedgehog, Megadrive, Sonic > Mario.

5) Revenge of Shinobi, Megadrive, loved it, took me forever to work out how to get through the maze at the end.

The best PC games:

1) Ultima Online, was best during 99/01, Trammel sucks.

2) Quake 3, there is nothing quite like playing 15 player Q3 over the university network :) (Study? What the hell is that?)

3) Unreal Tournament, personally i prefer Q3 for its multi-player, but unreal tourney rocks too.

4) Command & Conquer, the the original was great, (though i also loved Dune 2, which was along similar lines)

5) X-Wing, first slight-sim type game i ever bought was great fun.

Manic miner
Atic atac
sabrewulf...ok any by Ultimate-Play The Game..lol

Jet pac--not jet set willy though.

Lords of midnight/valhalla..

RPG's were never ever ever as good as Lords of Midnight on the speccy 48k.

Remember Avalon---nice game, and elite......wow

Ummm in the last 2 yrs (IMO) the best and most playable PC game is.......Tiberian sun comm and conquer.......I have played it to DEATH...like worn the CD's out...Online is great!

I do like counter strike blah blah.

Max payne was groundbreaking, liked that, along with MOHAA-that also was great.

Liked cossacks and its add on CD.

Did some1 say chuckie egg? DAMN i forgot that one.

And if you played OCEAN's flight sim on the speccy, it was kinda like FS2000....LMFAO..

No offence to MS as Flight Sim 2002 really is good....No I am not a geek, it really is good.

Oh as for consoles, we all got together to MARIO KART ourselves to death in 2-4 player modes.....only on SNES!!!!!! FANTASTIC

oh, and I like PIKMIN on CUBE, kinda like LEMMINGS (another classic)

Hey Kyle the game looks cool but fix your disclaimer page so it will work(or it is just me )and also what is portal.hostultra.com? I was asked like like 4 times if I wanted to set my homepage to it and I even have stop sign going so...

It should; I'm not sure why it doesn't. I know that when I link to a non-index.html page it pops up a bunch of ads. But when I link to index.html (like I did/am) it shouldn't pop up any ads at all. Then once you leave the page it will ask if you want to set your homepage to portal.hostultra.com (my web service provider...it's free and unlimited bandwidth so i don't complain). If you click on it once then it should stop from there. So I take it you never did get to play the game? (...or did you and that's why said you the game looks cool?) Either way thanks for visiting the site and possibly trying the game.:)

Pilot wings it was yes, although it was SNES game not NES...it was one of the launch games..and it was poo

I know for sure that Pilot Wings was one of the launch games for the 64, but I don't know about the SNES (?).

lets see here...

Warlords 2 - a great game...very fun and addictive...i think it inspired the next game on my list, but i am not sure...
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 - incredibly addictive and fun...by the way I love tower...tower combined with castle is awesome...has anybody ever been able to find a frozen cliffs and get azure dragons?
Need for Speed III - i love this game...running from the cops is incredibly fun in this game...
Grand Theft Auto 1 - a classic...thats all you can say...ive never played 2, and i have played a little of 3...but mostly i have just played the original GTA...and its a great game...
Mechwarrior 1/2/3/4 and MechCommander 1/2 - althought none of these were really revolutionary games, I am a big Battletech fan and all of these are very fun.
Civilization 1/2 - both are INCREDIBLY addictive. I have played these for hours on end. I have not played 3...but I must get it very soon...i am yearning for that game. This is a must have for everybody.
Empire Earth - not a revolutionary game...but very fun...i like being able to go through every age in time.
Starcraft - very good game. a classic. even after so many years tons of people still play it and it is still incredibly popular. a very well done RTS game.
Age of Empires - yet another great RTS. personally I like it better than Starcraft, but overall it seems as if Starcraft was more revolutionary than AoE.
Doom (All episodes of both Doom I and Doom II) - what can i say? Its the best FPS ever. That simple.
Wolfenstein 3D - awesome game...very revolutionary...fun to play, great FPS.
Lemmings - this is one fun game that you can just pass the time away with...i love it...especially the Can-Can music...
Liero - fun!!!!!!!!
Final Fantasy 6 (3 in USA) - all Final Fantasy games are good, but this one is by far the best one I have ever played. I havent played 7, 8, 9, or 10. I also like FF5 quite a lot. It is fun.
Legend of Zelda - awesome game...what more can I say. very revoluationary adventure game...and i am very happy that they brought the original music back in Majora's Mask, which they took out for Ocarina of Time.
Super Mario Brothers 1/2/3 - 1 and 3 are the best, but 2 is also fun. After SMB 3, they get boring.
Duck Hunt and Track & Field - the games that came packaged with SMB 1...very fun...
Diablo - a very fun adventure/rpg game...i love it...if only it had more than just one adventure in the first version...for example, Doom has episodes, Starcraft has episodes, Diablo needs episodes too.

okay thats all i can think of off of the top of my head..

I know that quite a few people who enjoyed the previous Civ games, myself included, don't particularly like Civ3. Then again there are obviously many many others who do like Civ3. Btw, Civ3: Play the Wolrd (the expansion pack for the game) is going to be coming out this fall.

God damn! I cannot even come close to winning in Civ3, it's on the easiest setting too! I was good at Civ1, but this one I can't frigging grasp. I just finished playing a game... and getting crushed by the COMPUTER over and over again... frustrating.

D-C, you oughta go back to Civ2. Tonight I just played my first game of it since last summer, and it has been so much more fun than Civ3 ever was for me. Playing the game I realize that there are so many poor game decisions with Civ3. Civ2 is the best game ever, and I dare someone to prove otherwise!

Project IGI
Unreal Tournament
Spy VS Spy (So old I can't even remember what machine it was on)
SF2 (Have got it on emulator and it is still the daddy of fighting games!!)

I played them all.. civ, civ2, ctp, ctp2, civ3. Civ3 is the best. Control zones, influence, good AI, good alliances & politics... not to mention cultural influence. Civ3 rox ! I haven't won a game on the third level yet, but I don't have time for playing really...

Thing about civ 3 is the worker AI is poor, once you have a reasonably big civilisation and generate polution all 500 of your workers walk towards the same patch of polution and so all them end up continually crossing the screen, grrrr.

uhm, I beg to differ. The A.I. never sends more than 2 workers to do the same task. This can be annoying, too, but it's not that bad.

Ok this order of this chnages drastically with my mood but....

1. Mechwarrior 2 (which was revolutionary, best multi-player too)
2. Civ2
3. Half-Life (and all mods, particuarly TFC and CS)
4. Baldur's Gate II
5. Deus Ex (which os going to make an incredable movie
6. Warcraft II

America's Army: Operations could evetually make this list....once I get a computer that can run it at something faster than 10 fps lol.

Quake3 (pretty much all of the quake series)

My favourite game right now is Warcraft III cause it is easy enough to be fun but is still a challenge(damn the night elves)and Half-Life is probably my favourite game(and most mods)because it is fun, long, easy and hard(I like games like that), and creative like in Opposing Forces, yes it is still Black Mesa but they bring back the qualities of the original game(like things/places you would remember)and use them in a cool way, there was only one dissapointing thing about opposing and that is that you only see Freeman once for about 2 seconds and then hes gone but then again that is explained cause you didn't take the same route as he did so thats ok. Tribes is fun but I prefer single player and RPGs because internet games are good, but I like to seige a town like in Warcraft.

One other line of games I would like to mention are the Red Alert series(like Red Alert, After Math, Tiberian Sun games)they were all pretty fun and with the release of Generals I should be busy for quite a while(when it comes out ;))

I'll agree that Civ3 does have many bright spots over Civ2, but those bright spots don't counter the many bad spots the game has compared to Civ2. The AI are land w***es, and are way too predictable. I don't enjoy being forced to expand at a ridiculously rampant rate at the beginning so I can have a chance of winning the game. Civ3 isn't any harder for me, but the fact that I HAVE TO expand so much early on makes the game boring for me. I like being able to use multiple strategies on different games instead of always having to expand so much. Not to mention the AI never respects your borders. The corruption thing is ridiculous. I don't like how the tech tree was setup, either. The fact that experience (veteran, elite, etc...) only provides with you more HP and not better A/D. Basically the Civ2 combat system is far better. I'm not particularly fond of the interface. Those are just a few of things that make me not enjoy Civ3. Some may feel the same and others may not feel the same.
