I posted this on the Game Programming board over a week ago...but never got any answer...thought I might re-ask it here...

Has anybody here ever used OpenAL? (Open Audio Library, www.openal.org)

I went to their site...but it confused me...I didnt know what to download or anything....and I couldnt really find any tutorials...

How compatible is it with SDL, and how multiplatform is it? I know it supposedly has the ability to play MP3s...and that is what I want...and it is also supposedly multiplatform just like OpenGL, and I also want that. I want to use it in my SDL programs.

Anybody ever used OpenAL before?

there are virtually none

> How compatible is it with SDL,

i don't know, doesn't/didn't SDL already use it?

>and how multiplatform is it?

linux,windows,mac's ect...

i don't know about it playing mp3's but it might...

unfortunatly, loki has losed and developement on OpenAL has not been updated in over a year... so it future is in question.

if it isn't continued by somebody in a year or so then look into OpenML which isn't out yet and won't be for a year or so yet, but it will be capable of cross platform mp3 audio. the futures foggy till then.
