I was doing a bit of background research, due to a member whose name I will not mention. He suggested about memory overflows using trojans etc, to gain access to users' computers. I disagree with this user a lot, I don't have any respect for him because he tends to talk about hacking computers and viruses a lot.

After reading this article (link below), I thought it might of some interest to system administrators out there who are after increasing there skills and improving there systems/networks security.

Wouldn't the best advice be not to open anything you don't trust? I mean, it takes a real idiot to open a file called "openme.exe" or something. So if that's the case, how are people making Trojans so sneaky?

By overflowing buffers on old systems with assembly instructions. Well, there is more to it than that but in C buffer overflows used to be common. With strings in C++ you don't get overflows. I won't get into specifics here.

Im not stupid enough to open something like "openme.exe". Im not stupid at all. I thought it would be an informative post. You know like trying to help others.

Sure, but there are viruses which send mail from your PC to someone you know and it uses your mail-address. So it seems like it is mail from a friend, collegue or family.

I read some virus like that today in the newspaper, it was called Klez.

I have gotten viruses by just going to websites before.
So I guess it is possible to infect Picture files, HTML files, JS files (Well i know those can be infected, I hate that JS virus), and anything else that is stored into you temporary internet files.

The web is a nasty place. Filled vwith people who for some reason want nothing more than to destroy your hard rive and make you spend money.

Sure, Viruses seem like nothing if you have back-ups and a Factory image on you Mother Board for system restores..

that is why you never open a *.vbs,*.exe,*.com etc...
you delete it...

I like this $null chap!......you dont hear from him for ages and then as soon as a hacking thread comes he he pipes up and reminds everybody how naieve and worthless they are!.........

Oh to be a linux user....sigh :)

Your little posts are worthless, Fordy. You should spend all week composing them otherwise you've no chance with all us master posters here. Oh, and by the way, I'm king of the posters.

Hey you declaring War!!!!??!!!!....careful or I will get moody and adolescent and call you names......

Yeah!!!...Right on!!!

Be careful, me and mister $null have got some big friends who might screw up your computer, or screw your companies computer (if you give a toss). It's got nothing to do with us being inadequate, honest. It's just that we know a so much more than you about how this new fangled internet network thingy works.

Oh yeah!!!!! come right ahead!!!!!

Although I know and accept the obvious fact that this "hacking" thing is a mystery art known only to the "Jedi like" *nix freaks....but I'm willing to stand up to you all!!

My IP is 127.0.0.1........I await your attempts to comprimise my system.....

Sorensen

Consider it done. I frown upon your knowledge of how computers are connected together. I am the ultimate admin, and have control over all I see (although my collegues sometimes call me hitler behind my back).

Sorensen

You're on my list now aswell. At this moment I'm writing your IP on my slate board.

Don't speak the $n word in vain.

lol, ok can you let me in on it or am i gonna have to besiege you with pm's until you tell me what's so funny

Sorensen

Sorry, in all seriousness, Mr $null has a habit of showing up whenever hacking is mentioned (as Fordy has already pointed out) and because hackers (normally frustrated admins) think that everybody gives a damn about their 'little' security tricks (this is hidden knowledge btw), it's fun to take the ........ out of them.

It may not be as much fun if you care about being hacked, but from what I'm typing this on I couldn't really give a ****.

Goddam!!! I just been hacked......

I minimised all my progs and there was a banner on my desktop....it went like this

Windows is gay......
Sorensen iz da masta!
Linux iz good....
$null 4 president!!!

That's the last time I cross swords with the *nix crew!!!

Never underestimate the power of the myths that my crew maintain.

>>where you can hack someones computer by knowing there Computers address?

Judging by the highly technical and descriptive terms such as 'hack' and 'Computer address', I would have to say your best bet on learning this topic would be to become vastly more knowledgable about computers in general. But mainly my basic instinct tells me you should turn off your computer and never turn it back on again.

Hacking peoples systems is for simps who are too lazy to do anything productive with their life. That kind of knoweldge is useful. Put it to good use instead.

Wow...

Just askin...

And I happen to know alot about computers just not in the areas of "Hacking" and "networking" ect.

I would never want to hack ino someones system! I was just curious as to how that info gets transfered from one PC to another...

If you know the PC's address you can go round with an axe and hack it. Only do it once as they may notice a second attack.
