View Full Version : Posting on comp.lang.c++ and comp.lang.c++.moderated

Anyone post there, or read those newsgroups? Not to sound insulting to people here, but I find the level of discussion is much higher, and there are a lot of very knowledgible people who post there (not that there aren't very helpful people here, but no where here is a member of the C++ standard comittee, or has written well selling books on C++, like some who post there.).

I regularly read those newsgroups. Sure there are threads which are of a level I haven't seen here, but most of them are equal to the threads here.

How do you know that?

Generally you don't get anywhere near the same amount of newbie questions on those newsgroups (especially moderated) and they are often posted by people with some experience and about some language technicality so if you're more experienced yourself I'd guess you're bound to get more out of them.

People such as

Andrei Alexandrescu http://www.moderncppdesign.com/
Scott Meyers http://www.aristeia.com/
Francis Glassborrow http://www.accu.org/bookreviews/public/reviews/0rv/Francis_Glassborow.htm

post there.

The usenet groups have been around much longer that forums such as this, and are more likely to have people who've been around longer.
I think the web page aspect of this site, while convenient, leads to lots more fluff and newbie posts that aren't the main interest of people like Alexandrescu, etc. I'm sure he's got enough on his plate w/o answering questions about how cin.getline works or how many posts you need till you get to senior member.

haven't tried reading those groups in particular, but I do enjoy the cut and thrust of random data compression quack arguments on comp.compression =)

plus there are some really good threads by people who do know what they talk of there.
