This dictionary has tickled me......very useful for any non-British, confused or amused by such words as shag, poof, randy, blooming, Blighty etc...
covers such important topics as:
Clothing
Everyday Miscellany
Food
People
Sex
The Road
Appliances
The Body
Expletives
Outdoors

and includes Scottish words...

fave examples -

f.a.g n. Be exceedingly careful with this one. 1. "f.a.g" is a very common (probably the most common) word meaning cigarette. One of the most amusing e-mails I've had concerning this page was from an American who had arrived at her company's UK offices to be told that the person she was looking for was "outside blowing a ***". 2. Almost worse, "***" was used until recently to describe first year senior-school kids who had to perform menial tasks (cleaning boots, running errands and the like) for the seniors. A contributor tells me that he was met with aghast looks when he told a group of New Yorkers that he "was a *** at school last year". Modern thinking on slavery has seen that the practice of "***ging" has all but died out.

f.a.ggot n. In the UK, a f.a.ggot is a meatball. In the US, a ***got is a male homosexual. In reality, the American definition is known (if not really used) UK-wide, so most of the jokes involving "***gots in brine" have already been made. I am told that in the US the word also means a small bundle of twigs, so the phrase "toss another ***got on the fire" is not quite the incitement to violence that it might seem.

edit - blimey, f.a.g. is a banned word... he he, i'm trying to give up f.ags, i was on 15 per day till recently !!

And all this time I thought a floater was a body the coroner
pulled from the river. I guess by either definition it's still
something I don't want to touch.

Think I'll spend the first half of the day Monday firtling about at work. Then when someone says "what are you working on?" I just reply "that new firtle project" and walk away before they can ask what it means. Success! I've found a new way to avoid productivity! :D
