I was at the hair cutting place today....when I noticed something going on. It was not something visual or really distracting, it was something that couldn't be seen, but that I realized is always going on at hair cutting places.

It is very simple really:

Whether you realize it or not, there is a continuous war going on between men at hair cutting places hoping to get certain haircutters.

It was very evident at this haircutting place however because there were actually 3 young, beautiful hair cutters there...which is not very common....usually you are lucky if you go to a hair cutting place that has 1 good looking hair cutter....

But anyways, as a guy I could sense this war going on between all the other guys in the room....they were all competing for one of the 3 young ones.....even though none of it was visual....it was all a mind war....

very interesting....check it out next time you are at the hair cutting place....

(unfortunately i didnt get any of the 3....dangt....)

I'm with Steve. Quick spray of "Mr Sheen" does it for me every time.

Have to admit David, I misread your post 1st time around. Never been to a barbers with female haircutters.:D ;)

The worst haircuts that I've received have been cut by women. They seem to want to talk to me an awful lot (wonder why ;)), get distracted, and the result is a bad haricut. Oh well...

Always book my appointment with the girl of my choice in advance, that way I know what is going to cut my hair, and what the end result will generally look like.

The same girl now for a year or so, nice looking but not a real beauty, pleasant chat, and a tidy result.

hehe

mebe i ought to use the word moron :

mo·ron Pronunciation Key (môrn, mr-)
n.
A stupid person; a dolt.
Psychology. A person of mild mental retardation having a mental age of from 7 to 12 years and generally having communication and social skills enabling some degree of academic or vocational education. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive.

any twelve year olds around ?????
:D :D

and all those 15 year olds who think they are so clever....
you are officially by medical definition, only 3 years wiser than a moron...
you are really semi-morons !!!

:D :D :D :p :p ;)

[btw : an imbecile is 3-7, and an idiot is <3 !!!!]

cretin

/kret'in/ or /kree'tn/ n. Congenital loser; an obnoxious person; someone who can't do anything right. It has been observed that many American hackers tend to favor the British pronunciation /kret'in/ over standard American /kree'tn/; it is thought this may be due to the insidious phonetic influence of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

i like that :

insidious phonetic influence of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

:D :D what about the insidious influence of Microsoft spellcheckers on British kids!! organize, my arse !!
he he, insidious effect of the English on their own language !!!! oooh sorry....:)

edit
[ps Aran et al don't bother saying "organize your arse, to what ?? left and right cheeks !" ]:)

Apart from the fact that organizing your arse doesn't come high on my to-do list, what's your point Steve!!!

Organize is the correct spelling, according to my Oxford English (Paperback).

:D

ooh no !!!! theyve got you too !!!!!!
don't tell me youre a organize, realize, socialize person too !!!!!

oxford dictionaries now allow organise AND organize yeah,
but the older dictionaries, and as i was taught at school, its organise only......the z is a relatively recent Americanism corruption !!! some kids now use the z, largely due to MS Office i reckon. !!! the z is now official English !!!! yuk :)

edit
i'm reading The Times, and every word is organise, organisation, realise, conceptualise.......the s is definitely 'proper' English, the z is also allowed though...
type organise into search at http://www.bbc.co.uk/
now type organize

i rest my case : 3,330 to 256 !!

ps how old are you ??? if over 30 and you still use z, then i'm gonna shoot you !!!:)

Steve, I'm 41, and had always used -ise, until I read that -ize is (believe it or not) the correct english ending. If anything, it is -ise that is becoming the standard (viz the Times). My (1988) Oxford Paperback doesn't even list organise, although organize is there.

stevey
04-29-2002, 12:21 PM
yeah, you're right !!!!!

my 1948 dictionary has organize only, no ise, my 1989 dictionary has ize and ise........so why do BBC and Times use ise, and we were both taught to use ise!! odd

i always thought the ize was an Americanism, and have never liked the spelling ize....but its only how i was taught.

looks like ize is correct english, we seem to have switched to ise (or most of us), the americans have stayed with ize.....

my nephews seem to be using ize.....thats what i meant...people of my generation seem to always use ise.

still...... if my nephews used inches etc, would that be an american influence??? or 'old fashioned' english ???? if you see what i mean...

RobR

I must admit it was a shock for me too. I'd always thought of -ize as American (not that there's anything wrong with American B4 I get flamed), until I read the article (I wish I could remember where I saw it!).

Edit -I don't know how to tell you this, but it looks like -ise is (gulp) French!!!!

see http://www.vocabula.com/Essayarchive/vrfeb02Lord.htm .

stevey

OHHHHHH NO !!!!!! NOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FRENCH !!!!!!

:( :( :( :(

howdy,
i guess at 42 i am the only onre that goes to those places to get my hair cut, after all early to mid 20's women bug me. i'd rather hook up with someone that can actually hold a conversation and knows how to handle a man... ,
