I just won a free domain name trial from Namezero... Anyone else use this or know how long the trial is? I read the license agreement, but don't talk lawyer, so I didn't notice anything.

Um, namezero is free anyway. Unless you got a free domain without that stupid banner that they put up.

That's true, 'cept now they have some premium services, too. As far as I can tell, the thing I won was to have my domain name activated quicker than most free users get. I applied yesterday and got the e-mail today. It had said to wait 6-8 weeks, but now I get this! kinda cool.

you can get domains real cheap anyway, if you go to ukreg.com a .com costs 15, co.uk cost 7 for two years. If you dont have a host you can use email forwarding, cloaked domain forwarding etc..

I want to get a website setup but I don' t know that much about hosting and all that jazz. What's cloaked domain forwarding?

>>what cloaked forwarding

say you have some free space on geocities/tripod whatever but dont want the crappy url they give you, you can register www.yourname.com and set it to point to your webspace provided by geocities/tripod etc. The only thing is it will keep
www.yourname.com in the address bar instead of putting the full url in.
hope thats clear

Namezero is very cool. At the end of the one year period, they take it away but they still are the registered owners. So it goes to their site when it expires (unless you upgrade to premium).

The best place for hosting/domain/etc. is brinkster.com. I joined them back when they were eWebCity.com just because they had no ads. Now they have a crapload of features...
