Hijacking and crashing three (at least...) planes at once? World Trade Center and Pentagon destroyed? Man, if I didn't saw this on TV, I wouldn't believe it...

It's more like a movie than reality (no offence to anyone).

my friend told me about this in third hour, and I wouldn't believe him til my teacher turned on the news...:( God rest their souls, and may the Lord smite those who caused this to happen!

Something of this scale had to be seen to be believed.

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen the second crash on TV.

All I can think when I see that is what must have been going through the passengers minds when that happened and that I've just seen 100 people die. It's just incomprehensible.

-KEN-
09-11-2001, 11:59 AM
No, seriously. I couldn't believe it. I didn't WANT to believe it. I just kept thinking that they'd announce something like that over the PA system, or I'd have heard more about it if something of that magnitude happened. Meanwhile they didn't announce it til the end of 4th hour...

yeah, i saw the second crash and it looked like a movie or video game or something. at first i thought it was some computer simulation as to what happened, then i realized it was real footage. i think this is a reality check for the country of how real total war is, and that no one is safe from it.

i think this just reminds us of our own mortality. How something as simple as getting on a plain to go to work can turn into you worst nightmare...one you will never awake from. They didnt even have a chance. Lets just hope that the ones the need punsihed get what they diserve. May god have mercy on their soles. And god bless all those people that died.

Don't wanna sound offensive (don't see why I should), but why pray? I mean, without 'Gods' a lot of this would never have happened.

Sorry if it sounds irrelevent but I find it offensive and degrading to human intelligence.

As for the attack, it's horrific. Regards to victims, and all of us. It could happen anywhere...

We can only hope it doesn't happen again.

That's sick. If you disagree with religion, you can. But don't insult us for believing in it.

And what do you mean, genious? This ain't no religous attack.

DanMan
09-11-2001, 03:17 PM
I don't think he was insulting anyone for their religion, he was just expressing that he feels religion is (at least partly) to blame for today's events. I don't agree with that, but I believe that's what he was saying, and I don't think he was trying to flame anyone. At least have the respect to do the same.

My heart and prayers are with all those that have died or been injured by these attacks. I hope that whoever is behind this is prepared for the absolute hell that they've just set in motion..

A pack of cruise missiles have been sent into Kabul the Afghan capital.

The explosions have just been reported on BBC News Online.

Just want to echoe my sentiments about todays terrible events.

Such a tragic waste of innocent lives and even though I am relatively new here my thoughts go out especially to any members of this board who might be suffering from the events first hand be it through loss of friends or family.

It was surely a terrible event. I truly feel sorry for anyone affected by this horrible series of attacks. I still can't believe that four commercial aircraft were hijacked.

As for the explosions in Kabul, the news over here has been reporting that there has been no U.S. attacks against anyone at this point.

...to all you europeans thinking us americans are overreacting with our threats, imagine if you will:

4 European flights are hijacked with mostly europeans on them. Two fly into the london tower, bringing it down, along with most buildings around it. Another smashes into the house of parliament, and the other misses it's target (wherever your equivalent of Camp David is), but still kills many europeans on the flight.

wouldn't you look to all your enemies who've terrorized you in the past with anger?

A criminal country that does not have civil law and will not aid the US to apprehend terrorists is declaring war. These countries are barbarian countries, not innocent.

Our goal is to remove the terrorist threat, not to kill numerous innocent civilians and still probably miss the terrorists. Actual thought has to be put into any actions taken prior to doing anything stupid.

So is your solution to make a quick and stupid decision, and end up with the United Nations extremely ticked off at us and then be in a worse place than we are now? Interesting plan, but I don't see its effectiveness.

Ken, here is a news article 2 days old (sept. 9, 2 days prior to the attack on the U.S.) about fighting in Kabul. This fighting in Afghanistan has not started in the last 12 hours. It started well before the attack. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow.asp?catkey=314014066&art_id=1517167307&sType=1

Olympics were in the US, there was a bombing...

Ack! I can't remember the difference between
"affect" and "effect"...

No, it looks like they are finding out who is responsible, don't jump to conclusions, there are enough carrot crunchers around here as it is.

It's not likely that the US is going to get wiped out but it is possible. The US is mobilizing the military right now. Something like 5000 or more Americans were killed. Next week another 5000 will get killed perhaps.

This is all speculation, people! don't you understand the difference? Dean - those numbers have no weight behind them - you have no proof; you're just stirring people up.

I agree with rick - maybe we should bomb Calgary :p

rick: on a note specific to another thread - the person you told me to PM made a post last night at around 7 EST. I'm sure he's fine.

static - you used it right. affect is a verb. effect is a noun.

No, I'm not a Communist, but so what if I am? I'm German by blood, but my family's been in the States since the 1600s.

I'm an American because I was born here, I've lived here my whole life, and I respect our laws and customs. I'm an American for all the same reasons you are not.

Thanks for the compliment. :)

I live in the all around best country in the world. I can see communism in your behaviour. You are naturally against freedom. You are half way between burying your head in the sand and deleting personal freedom like the communists and able to speak like an American.

Indeed.

And as I quite clearly stated I didn't mean to be offensive. I'm entitled to my own beliefs. I'm not insulting anyone at all, I have nothing against whatever you might think.

Just wanted to say my bit.

And btw I don't think any cruise missiles have been fired anywhere :D

DanMan
09-12-2001, 10:29 AM
Jesus, the level of stupidity in this thread is unreal.

First, no, the US has NOT attacked anyone. The attacks in Afg. were perpatrated by AIRCRAFT, not cruise missles. While we did have aircraft in range, we would not have used aircraft to take out a single target (an ammo dump no less). The fighting is more of the continuing civil war over there. The US HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. They only said that about 100 times.

Wan Valdez, to be blunt, you are being a complete jackass. First, do you know the definition of Communisim?? Because I do, and no one on this thread has acted anything like a communist. If you are calling Govtcheez a communist because he is (in your eyes only) defending the Middle East, then you are way off base. The countries over there ARE NOT communist. Most are dictatorships. So, if you are going to insult him, do it right, and call him a dictatortorian (umm... or whatever a pro-dictator calls him/herself).

Alot of innocent people died yesterday. It probably won't be 5,000, but it'll be in the thousands. We should all be outraged by that. We should all be disturbed and upset. But we SHOULD NOT jump to conclusions and start wiping out the innocent along with the guilty. Saying that we need to wipe whole nations off the face of the earth is just plain stupid. So what if it was Ben Laddin? SO WHAT? We should go and wipe whatever country he's been living in off the map? We should nuke it and everyone in it? HELL NO. Should we strike that nation's military, its government, those that have helped hide him, and bring them all to their knees? Yes we should. But we should do it in a manner that doesn't throw more lives away. While there are plenty of people in the Middle East cheering at our loss, there were plenty more sitting in their homes disgusted by their countrymen.

Being in the same nation as whoever was responsible for this DOES NOT make everyone in the nation guilty. However, if the nation's government was helping or hiding this person, that nation's government is just as guilty, and we should do what we would do to any country we are at war with: target it's military and government installations and level them. When we go to war with a nation, we *usually* do not target civilian targets. We target military targets. We target government installations. We try to cripple the nation with as little loss of life as possible. The goal is to cripple the government, not wipe out that nations population.

Everyone needs to take a deep breath and calm down. I'm as ticked about this as anyone. I want blood. But I don't want to kil a bunch of innocent people to get it. I just want those responsible for this, whatever their roles in it, to be punished. And they will be. These attacks won't go without retribution. Those responsible for this will get what they deserve in this life and the afterlife. God help anyone who gets caught in the middle.

This actually made me laugh. Hard. I don't think I've laughed that hard since this started. Thank you.

For the record, I am NOT an Afghanian. Therefore, I could not be an Afghanian terrorist. I am, and have been for my entire life, an American citizen. The difference between you and me is that I have a brain, you quite obviously do not.

Let me reiterate, slaughtering more innocents will NOT help anything. Anyone who thinks it will is acting out of rage or is, like Wan here, just trying to stir people up, which is a sick thing to do at a time like this...
