This is more of a question to see if anyone would know.

Lemmings as we all know was created in 1991 by DMA and Psygnosis.

I have it on my PC which runs Windows XP SP2. I have gotten up to the Mayhem levels and im on level 17. But I am unable to finish cause when I exit the level I get an Error that says:

"Lemmings"

"Lemmings cannot find the required memory"

Then it crashes and bails out.

My question is, I have a good spec pc with over 2GB of RAM, so why cannot Lemmings find the memory which I clearly have in supply, to run such a small game? And why suggest this error now when I am so close to the end of the game? Is it a bug in the program, that the developers missed?

Is it a bug in the program, that the developers missed?

It could be too much memory... causing the integer overflow somethere in the program... Probably program was never tested with 2 Gb RAM available...

Sounds like the wonderful days of EMS, ETS, EXT, and who knows however many other types of made up combinations that meant "more memory that DOS can't natively figure out how to handle". :p

Try playing it in Dosbox. (Open-source x86 DOS emulator.)

There is a version of Lemmings that is Windows-native. Granted, it was made in the days of 95 and so is a bit creaky, but I do believe that there's at least one budget label still selling it.

If dosbox won't work you could trying running it win9X compatibility mode and if compatibility mode does not work then you could get UAE and emulate the Amiga version.

I got lemmings and lemmings2 working in XP through dosbox (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dosbox/DOSBox0.72-win32-installer.exe?download).
