A person is free if he can go to work each day without having to
worry about the building he works in being blown up by terrorists.

No. Wait. Don't hang up!
This is America calling!
i agree
but who should set those limits?
there is no such thing as freedom and free speech will never truly exist
Monday - what a way to spend a seventh of your life
In my opinion,
"My freedom is until it restricts others freedom."
I do agree with gamegod3001, but of course should be added with the line above.. do you agree?

According to... me!:
Theoretical freedom: one is allowed to do what s/he wants
Practical freedom: theoretical + as long as it doesn't harm others.
Of course, practical freedom wouldn't work as it is in practice; it needs human interpretation related to each situation (place, time, culture, etc - though, not necessary, government, police... = authority).
Freedom is the absence of forced external control. Your personal freedom ends where it begins to restrict someone else's freedom.
Freedom is not the total absence of control. That is anarchy. Freedom means you are free to control yourself.
Freedom does not mean absence of consequences. You might be free to say what you want. However, I am free to decide how to react to this. If you tell me you believe that the world will end tomorrow, I might not employ you to plan the future of my corporation. Your freedom, my freedom, nevertheless, no job.

She was so Blonde, she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice can because it said "Concentrate."
When in doubt, read the FAQ.
Then ask a smart question.
Freedom is doing what you want as long as you don't infringe(sp?) with the rights of others, and you are not harming anybody.
There are some real morons in this world please do not become one of them, do not become a victim of moronitis. PROGRAMMING IS THE FUTURE...THE FUTURE IS NOW!!!!!!!!!

Think of this, we do not have freedom, but we do have rights, they are constricted,
i.e. you have the right to say what you will, but lets say you say something that infringes on another persons rights, you no never had the right to speek those words, so initialy, you have the right to speak as long as it doesn't take over the rights of another person.
if a contradiction was contradicted would that contradition contradict the origional crontradiction?
I disagree with you there, dissata. I have the right to say what I please. No matter if it offends you. Think about it, there's someone sensitive to almost anything I could possibly think to say. Saying "My dog died today" could make someone incredibly sad, so I never had the right to say that? Surely that doesn't make sense.
I didn't say offend, I said takes over the rights of another
i.e your in school, trying to listen to your prof. cause finals are coming up, and some *** in the back is yelling his head off, he doesn't have the right to yell like that because he is infringing(sp?) on the rights to learn by you and the rest of the people in the class.
so what if it makes someone sad, you have the right to do that, but threating someone is another example, you are taking away their right to live in peace and without fear
if a contradiction was contradicted would that contradition contradict the origional crontradiction?
hmm can't say f a g? ok nut

Here... I will take a phillisophical stand on this one just for the heck of it...
Nobody is free. We are prisoners in our own bodies and prisoners to this planet.
We could kill ourselves, but the fear of damnation and a love for life keep us trapped. (Don't go killing yourself... this is just a side of a debate. One that I do not necessarily believe in...)
We have gotten off of the planet, but the security is too good, and we have to come back to it or die.
Freedom is an idea that doesn't exist.

nv, is quite correct in his explaination.

LOL... sorry.
I meant... everybody is free and happy. Let's all sing a song...
If your happy and you know it clap your hands
If your happy and you know it clap your hands
If your happy and you know it and your really want to show it
If your happy and you know it clap your hands

actually given the choice, we would stay on this planet, and taking your view, if we do create the technology needed to leave and we don't it may be for fear of leaving, but rather for fear of going. if we do have that choice, even if one is predetermined then we have freedom
(I know you'll say it isn't but think about it for a while, if we WANT to do something, even if it will already happen, it isof our FREE will and therefore freedom)
if a contradiction was contradicted would that contradition contradict the origional crontradiction?
