The 5th November tradition in the UK has just kicked off a full 3 weeks early. Some moron close by has started things off with a few rockets.
This is probably going to go on for the next month or so. Random loud explosions for no good reason at all. At any other time, the most explosive thing most people are allowed to purchase is a match, but "tradition" demands that once a year people can buy enough explosives to blow themselves up.
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.
The same annoying "no use" happens at New Year as well, but it's not quite as "spread out".
[Don't get me wrong, I love a nice fireworks display - but a nice fireworks display and spending 5 or 20 quid at the local supermarket and setting them off as and when you want aren't even remotely the same thing].

Edit: And the really ironic thing is that the bonfire and related fireworks is in memory of a FAILED gunpowder plot - so why are we blowing things up now, then?

Try living in the US, where fireworks signal pretty much every major and minor holiday. I swear whether it's christams, 4th of july, flag day, haloween, etc, you'll hear fireworks.
I can second that. I live in Massachusetts, where fireworks are illegal, and our neighbors run firework displays worthy of a city celebration, and never get in trouble with the police. A police officer lives down the street too. Even while illegal, fireworks are the big thing, whether it be the fourth of july or a half day due to parent teacher conferences.

Well I love fire. I guess you guys are all old grandpas or something to not like blowing up crap.Just a few weeks ago I set of a huge firework, and pointed it at my neighbors house(bet he won't ding dong ditch my house again

Any ways, they can be hazards, I admit, but only if your not using them as directed.
IE.
Setting off a bunch of fireworks form your homemade flamethrower that you made out of a super soaker, lighter, and some gasoline.
I think you guys should all dress up as that dude from V for vendetta. That would be awesome.
Then bomb the hell out of your neighbors, and maybe they will stop.
