    My Rules:

    1. If it is going to be easy to find, use google (more organized).

    2. If it is going to be hard to find, use altavista (more powerful but less organized).

I use google almost exclusively, but I use AskJeeves for school and finding information for science projects, because it takes me to good encyclopedia stuff.

isn't yahoo now powered by google?

Anyway, I chose Northernlight. Now its not the best, but I like it b/c when I am seriously searching for something, Northernlight is the only engine that doesn't list a whole bunch porn sites.

Now if I'm looking for porn, it wouldn't bother me, but when I'm looking for matrilinal societies (and ANT project), I don't want to get result from porn sites that some how are listed with 'matrilineal' as a keyword.

i think we need a better search engine registration system - i joined now with keywords computer security discussion forums
what poistsion am i - in the first 5 million - no

i dont think the pay system is effective and its about time the serach engine contents were checked and any link leading to a 404 was removed! think how many there must be on AV alone - they could get a bot to do this - i bet it would fine a few million

I use all of them and more, exclusively.

Yahoo/Excite and Google return near identical information. Do the same search on both and print the results. Almost identical.

I never limit my searches to one search engine. In programming some topics are not as popular or might be more dated than others. There are time when google, yahoo/excite, and other popular ones fail where less popular ones might not.

Use as many as possible for the best, most comprehensive results. Using one search engine is like doing research for a term paper using one source.

    Good question..

ohh... I like Altavista since I started to use internet in 1996.
Nice and very much powerfull search engine..
Even sometimes I think, if I could create a search engine like Altavista

    Then Yahoo

    Recently trying Google...

But I mostly use Altavista.. Actually I do use it very much.

Northern Light does not provide searchs anymore... They provide the search only in their database of news.

    Anyways, I voted for lycos.

I also have a report (not by me) for the highest amount of websites in a SE's database... I will post it up later..
