    9 : 1 male/female ratio

i was reading the [stealth] poem thread and it made me think. i thoguht it was funny that she said 'eeww' but it makes sense enough. (when/if i have a daughter, she's gonna be one of those 1 : 9 females in CS... : ) i would figure that ratio would hold here too... what is all your guys' (and girls') opinions on that?!?

    thank ye kindly...

let this post, or any other, really, not be indicative of my own gender...

hey now, can't we all just get along? i didn't mean the daughter-CS thing seriously. just a joke... it would be interesting but _of_course_ i would never force anyone (let alone my children) do anything unless they really wanted to themselves... i apologize if i sounded otherwise...

again, let no post of mine ever be indicative of my gender... not this one, not any other one, not any attitude i may indirectly non-present to no-one (not 'no-one', anyone...) for the reasons i don't give or do for no reason at all... ahem... i'm done.

doubleanti: If you have a daughter and she's anything
like my own , you won't be
    telling her anything at all.
These kids today just don't listen.

    >tell her not to be what you want her to be & she may be it <

The only thing I want her to be is happy. For this, I don't have to tell her , "Be happy!" All I have to do is give her money

    Are you listening, doubleanti?

This line is most effective if accompanied by waving your cane around.

if your gonna "make" her be a programmer then she won't believe me
    That goes for any profession.

While we're sorta on the subject, why aren't there more girls around in the CS field? Normally, we can't really have anyone to comment on this, but maybe CollegeGirl can elaborate a bit? Does someone just sit some girls in front of a computer when they're young and say "Don't go near this - it's confusing and the men using it are geeky!"

    >...i thought you were talkin about a lil kid hehe<

lil, as in 21. Age only matters in that their needs
increase exponetially as they age . At 14,
all she wanted was a coupla bucks. No problem.

Her trip to Russia isn't for pleasure, though; she's
already been there twice--the first to visit her
sweetheart, and the second to marry him.

Her bo was supposed to be over here in three
months, but our wonderful INS burocracy is missing
a piece of paper. She can't sign the stupid paper
over here; no she has to go back to Russia t sign
    it. If she signs he comes over here in three months;
    if she doesn't it's a 1.5 year wait. I see lawyers on
    the horizon.

Wow...rick, you daughter is 21 and married?
i am 22 to 23 and NOT THINKING ABOUT GETTING
    MARRIED.... i don't know...it just seems a bit (or a byte)
    odd...good luck.

this may sound a little bad
girls hate compiuters, girls hate mathematics
girls hate quiz, girls hate..bla bla bla...
    sum:
cout<<"girls hate everything that has something to do
    with brain activity...\n";
of course there are some girls that do not.
something like the 99.99% of the female population.

lol...i feel proud to be a man!
but of course if i was a woman i wouldn't care.

    [unserious sarcasm]

*in valley girl voice* helloE! didn'tcha read it correctly? it said ratio 9:1, but did not include that of the entire male/female population... therefore, even if .0001 % of the world were dorkus programmers like us, then it'd still be 9:1... [take no offence with the 'dorkus' part...]

    [relatively serious part]

would you actually think that ratio would hold independant of the percent of the whole population which programs??? i'd like to think so... but still think it kind of sucks... [non-gender indicative i remind you...]

[and a side-note to rick barclay]

wow, if your daughter is 21, then that makes you... lets see... carry the one...
