Injured while playing Test Drive Unlimited

Yes you read the title right. I sat in my old computer chair for so long I actually compressed my sciatic nerve and now I have to take medicine and go to physical therapy.

I should email Atari asking for compensation. LOL.

So you can get hurt playing video games.

Any of you who work in computers ever get back or leg pain from sitting down too long?

Only back pains. Not major pains and as long as I remember to rearrange occasionally, it goes away. Probably going to get worse though. Meh. It's my spine, I'll bugger it up if I want to.

There's all kinds of stuff that can happen if sit playing games too long: Deep Vein Thrombosis, not to mention seizures, and wasn't there a story years back about some Korean guys dying while playing one of those MMORPGs?

I get poor posture, and a fat gut. My eyes get tired after about 10 hours though, so i have to go home and stare at the LCD until bed-time. Total daily exposure to computers - about 15 hours. Probably not healthy, but it sure is fun and it pays well.

Bad posture here too. I bend myself over too much and have the nasty habit of sitting on top of one leg and slightly sideways to the screen. After a little while the leg is numb, hurts and finally adopt a better position... only to find myself doing it again maybe an hour later.

Result: Back pains especially in the morning and too much tension over my neck pretty much the whole day. The leg is fine though.

EDIT: I did get hurt once playing Manic Miner on ZX Spectrum. My brother punched me because he wanted to play too. Other than that so far, only my pride gets hurts while playing games.

The Korean guy died playing Starcraft apparently.

One of the worst pains I have ever experienced came from getting cramp in my neck after spending all day playing on my megadrive as a kid. I spent about a week with my head tilted as far to one side as it would go. If I tried to move it the pain was so unbearable it would just snap back like a reflex.

My physical therapist is pointing to the culprit as the piriformis muscle. This definitely points to playing TDU for too long in one position. I'm not saying it's the sole cause but it helped.

The sciatic nerve runs behind the piriformis and in 30% of the population it runs through the muscle. So if the muscle does not expand or 'let go' and stays tight it will more than likely put pressure on the nerve which will then shoot pain down the back of the leg.

Not comfortable at all. So am I going to quit playing TDU or video games because of this? Hehe not a chance.
