Depending on the field you go into, you may use complex numbers every day, or you may never use them again. In my first career as an electronics engineer, I used them every day for solving circuit equations. in my second career as an applications programmer, I rarely use them. In my third career as a self employed vagrant, I dont plan on using them at all
Well considering that Quaternions are an extension of complex numbers, and it appears to me that there are a lot of people who do some form of another of 3D graphics around here, I figure there are a lot of people who use complex numbers (or even more complex numbers) without even noticing it.
