Infrared can't travel through glass, so maybe the glass is blocking view of the temp in the room? Even if it is the same temp as the room, the large quanities of room (the long distance the light has to travel and bounce back) might have an affect. That or maybe it doesn't even recive the return signal, that way, it would see any temp of an object.

Sure it can: there are infrared filters that block visible light, and if there weren't then all sorts of infrared devices wouldn't exist.

Still, a valid point though, a human is pretty warm at 37 degrees centigrade. The rest of the imaging technology may only turn on if something is hot enough. You don't even need to keep the room reasonably cool for that to work (although that would be bad for the machine).

I wonder what the blue screen of death looks like on this thing

I've seen a prototype of something similar to this before. Can't remember what it was called. But it looks like a wonderful idea, although I think its uses are probably quite limited. For example, can you imagine hunching over that thing to do email or surfing the net? As media entertainment, great. But again, I can't see this thing becoming popular until the price comes down. A lot.

No, but it'd probably work fine if it was at a 45 degree angle or something.

Eck... and how would you type? With an onscreen keyboard? No thanks.

Handwriting recognition? I think it'd be easier than using a laptop keyboard. I never could get used to those.

One of my new gadgets has WiFi access and Web surfing. It's a handheld thingamajob, but it now docks to a TV as well to do other things. Experimenting, I found that the Web browsing was now available for me on my my living room TV. But the interface was a tiny remote without a keyboard.

Anyone else remember that old Dilbert: "Make them reboot after every typo." Close, but unfortunately not that far.

As easy as it seems this thing gets up any device put on it - no problem to put a WiFi keyboard and mouse directly on the comp-surface. And work with it... It's a pity they didn't show any demonstaration of it... Hand-writing is good no more than to write "Hi, Mom!" on the postcard to be sent...

Looks gimmicky. But it probably would work nicely on military ships for interactive maps and charts. It would also work well on starships like the Enterprise, but of course, the rest of technology hasn't quite caught up to that yet.

If you program in C++, you need Boost. You should also know how to use the Standard Library (STL). Want to make games? After reading this, I don't like WxWidgets anymore. Want to add some scripting to your App?
