    Anyone make their own fonts?

Using free Windows software? I found one yesterday that requires cygwin but I don't want to mess around setting that up unless I have too, so I'm here firing a shot off into the great unknown that is cboard.

There are several kinds of font types- bitmap fonts, truetype, etc. Is there a specific font you want to create?

I can make my own fonts, I use Corel(tm) products, but their not free (or cheap), but they do everything you'll ever need to do graphics wise. You might want to look into them (Now I'm advertising :P)

I don't know of any free font making software, good luck on it, and if you don't get anywhere, you can always e-mail me the characters vectors (or bitmaps), and I'll make the font for you and e-mail it back. Bitmap or TrueType.

    Preferably TTF.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind if my search fails

Cygwin is great. I would install it anyway, just because it has a bash shell. But if you've always used Windows, you don't know what you're missing . . .

    Were you using FontForge?

Here's a page on Valve Developer Wiki, there are some font programs in the section. Not free, however, but there are trials.

I  bash as much as the next guy, I just really can't be bothered. Well, not at 20 to midnight on a Saturday anyway.

I'll check out the trials - hopefully they're 30 days.

I wanted to make TTF fonts as well, but it's almost impossible to find any freebies that don't have trial limitations. The closest I've seen is FontForge, of which is open source, but having to install cygwin is ridiculously complicated. They should have a separate package that only installs what is absolutely needed. Not only that, but the design from what I'm seeing is very awkward (probably because it's not oriented toward Windows). For now, I make bitmap fonts as BMP or TGA files. They are only used in my games.

There's "FontCreatorProgram" that I've heard as being a good program, but it's not free and there is a 30-day trial (mine expired years ago and when I did use it, vertices were often misplaced in the saved output making it a pain to get working right.). I'd almost just write such a program, but I lack the skills with programming and some knowledge with TTF fonts (especially classification-related things).
