What kind of despicable person steals your dog?

I really can't believe it. My brother had just recently got a dog and someone took him. He was tied up in a fenced yard and some [expletive] just walked off with him. What is this world comming to? Aren't there enough strays dogs out there to adopt without having to steal someone elses?

I'm sorry to say, but stolen dogs usually end up in illegal dog fights.

It takes a real lowlife to steal a dog out of someones fenced backyard.

Unfortunately I have the opposite problem. I live in a rural area and it seems that people think I am an ideal candidate to get rid of their unwanted pets. In the last two years I have had ten stray dogs show up at my house after being dumped off by their owners. I have no choice but to call the County animal control people to come and get them. Pets are a big responsibility and people think it's a good idea when they first get them, then after they realize how much time and work they are they try to get rid of them the easiest way possible.

    Sorry for the rant

Surely you have some sort of cite to back up this statement and it wasn't just pulled out of your ass.

I think his statement was meant to be a joke. It's not funny though.

I had two dogs that ran away, but we found them later. But I don't think anyone would steal them from the backyard. Most likely because one is a pitbull and the other a rottweiler.

I do not think his statement was a joke.

It is extremely easy to acquire fighting dogs. Street fighters can buy fighting dogs for a few hundred dollars or, more commonly, they breed their own or steal them.

The following link describes what stolen dogs can be used for if they are not fighters. I would not read it if you're squemish or an animal lover.

Another graphic article on the same subject:

Mentions what happens to stolen pets:

I don't want to depress the topic starter, but the information is out there for those who want it. Specifically for Govtcheez, who should know how to use google:

They could also be used by drug dealers for protection, or transporting drugs.

I think theres a better chance someone would steal your pitbull or rottweiler for that.

Sorry buddy. That's harsh. Your brother hung up posters and such? One on every tree, fence, pylon, door, public office, police station, car? It might turn up. We thought our dog was stolen years ago, and for two weeks it was gone and then just turned up one day ... never knew what happened to it. I like to think it helped save the world.

Yeah, there's a lot on the subject out there, and some of it is rather distasteful.

Perhaps what others were protesting was the "usually" part of his comment, meaning that it can't be said that most stolen dogs wind up being fighters. Even then, I wouldn't know how to go about proving the percentage of stolen dogs that wind up where since I imagine many stolen dogs are never recovered and hence the statistics aren't really complete.

But that is pure speculation on my part. I just know that stolen dogs are reported to be used in these activities, whether as fighters or something else, and from the information available, it would appear that it is more common than it might appear.

Yeah, but you'd have to have some balls to go near it.
