personally, i think there should be an age limit on this board... just my opinion... but people under say... 16... don't usually make intelligent conversation...

that wouldn't really work - there's quite a few 15 year olds on this board for example (and you know who you are) who are intelligent, helpful and give exceptionally reasoned arguments the majority of the time. I know loads of people over the age of 16 who can't make intelligent conversation.personally, i think there should be an age limit on this board... just my opinion... but people under say... 16... don't usually make intelligent conversation...

Nice one Bassy!

ok, i'll go along with the fact that many people over 16 can't make intelligent conversation, but you have to admit that 10 year olds don't normally have a place here... they don't have the experience or the reasons to be here and contribute..
quick!!! quick!!! I NEED HEPL!

Not to mention I'm 15 and I can remember times helping you out...and probably making some sort of conversation with you at some point. So back off!

There is no need to be so officious to someone who is asking for help. A polite and courteous reply with helpful information as to what to do next time would suffice (like Troll_Kings in one of those examples) . If it bothers you that someone is asking such blatantly obvious questions, don't reply to them, and if you do take my advice from above. You were once starting out as well don't forget and no doubt you did not appreciate being told off because you were a newbie asking some newbie questions. It's no wonder people think programmers are rude, with replies like those.

i remember that kind of typing... my cat used to do that when she walked on the kb
>>don't reply to them
i think [stealth] is right.
ygfperson, MAN you must have read my mind!!
i was also going to type that.
i am always happy to answer a question that i can to help someone with less knowledge than myself, its the help me immediatly attitude that disuaded me from replying courteoully - and we are all guilty of doing that.

I remember reading, finding every tutorial I could, and just overall absorbing the language before I asked my first question (it was on file I/O, btw). People who post like that are just plain...ignorant. Ok, so maybe someone should have politely pointed them to a tutorial....Oh well. What's done is done, and I don't see the point in ..........ing about it.

Who is "*****ing" about it? Having an opinion and expressing it in a rational manner is not *****ing Ken.
I'm with iain on this one!
I dont mind answering the most simple of questions. I even answer the same ones over and over again... But i take offence if i'm getting attitude at the same time someone is demanding i take time out of my day and do something for someone i'll, a) never meet b) have never heard of and c) will never get a single ounce of benefit from. I dont mind doing it - actually i enjoy it - but i'm not about to take flack for it while i'm doing it.i am always happy to answer a question that i can to help someone with less knowledge than myself, its the help me immediatly attitude that disuaded me from replying courteoully
Its not really an age thing though. I know people older than myself who are pretty much 100% idiot. And on the opposite end of the spectrum i know "young 'uns" who show a lot more brains than most. Though it's true that the greatest percentage of garbage (i.e. How kan i mak grfiks on my windoes consoul? Tell me now owr i will giv u a Trojan becose i kan hak good.) is produced by either:
a) 10 year old kids
b) People who have discovered Unhooked on Phonics
