Question Music

Besides myself, I have seen severel posts that would suggest that most people who work on the computer often listen to music at the same time. How true is this for you?

Almost all of the time. I plug my mp3 player into my speakers at work and constantly have winamp up when I'm at home.

Probably at least 50% of the time when at home, not at work though.

I never do. I find it annoying and distracting.

But then I always have the sound muted because I don't even like the Windows sounds.

I fall in the same boat as dwks... but it's not so much that it's distracting, for me it's more impossible. I like to appreciate my music when I listen to it and when I'm working, I have trouble fully appreciating the music. So when I want to listen to music, I just listen to it and do nothing else.

Depends on what I'm doing. Not usually while programming, because iTunes takes away CPU power. And because I'm usually programming 3D stuff, which iTunes doesn't seem to like.

If i'm doing anything else, then I usually have something playing in the background.

EDIT: Wait a second...why don't I just use my iPod while i'm programming?

Well, I'm listening to Pink Floyd now ... It depends on what I'm doing and how urgent it is and how stressed I am

Yah. I like busting the tunes out when I am working sometimes. And other times I like it to be quiet. Guess it just depends. More so than not I am listening to music.

Music is almost a pre-requisite for writing good code.... that and working on software at 4:00 am. All of that combined results in one heck of a product.

I usually have music playing while I'm on the computer, which is about 75% of my life. I definately code better with some good tunes playing.
Code:
cout << "Language comparisons are dumb";
echo("Language comparisons are dumb");
PRINT "Language comparisons are dumb"
alert ("Language comparisons are dumb")

Always. If I'm on my PC, I'm listening to music. Loud.
I'll be deaf when I'm 30.

Most of the time. I spend more of my time thinking than actually doing homework or writing my English papers, and I find that music aids the thinking process. When I actually get to doing something, the music goes off. By that time though, I understand things so well that I can get stuff done quickly, leaving more time for music.

I listen to music (mostly ambience - the quieter and softer the better) if I doing some text editing or programming. Mainly when I'm going for a walk or what not. I'm pretty sure my hearing has gone down in the last three years... but that's because I use headphones when I listen to music... should use the speakers more.

Which reminds me, I also listen to music 90% of the time when I'm out and about (the exceptions are: when I'm with someone (rare), in a shop and paying for something). It keeps the great British public away.
