just got my iMac. Got the 17" with a gig of ram. Bought it from compusa because they matched the online mac store's student discount. I really wanted to get the 20" screen, but it was too much for me at the moment.
So far I'm loving it.

When you're using it and drinking coffee, don't use those stupid plastic lids because they fall off and spill the coffee over the keyboard ... it was a sad day, but no lasting damage! edit: Somehow

Love iMacs! I have an old G5 one as my home computer, it's awesome. Nice GUI, has some GNU tools. Only disadvantage is it doesn't really like C++, moving towards Objective-C.
I thought the dev tools that came with Macs now a days were pretty good, XCode or CodeX or whichever it is. Friend of mine loves the stock tools.
They are pretty good: for command line or Cocoa/Carbon. But if you like doing a GUI in C++ (like win32) it is hard with XCode (which is really just an IDE).
Unless you mean drag and drop solutions, GUI should be the same as other platforms, I have done GUI on *nix and Windows.
Yes, but there is no built in C++ toolkit or build option. It is possible using Objective-C, but unless you use a third-party solution (wxWidgets), it is hard to make work in C++.

I'm sure you know all the regular ones for dashboard, desktop, mosaic, etc.. Try holding <shift> with those, fancy stuff.
