    Cyprus (be civil, please)

The european council was very clear today. Turky has 5 weeks to correct some of the current problems or probably see the end of negotiations regarding their acceptance as a new member of the EU. Regardless of other problems, at the very heart of this decision is the continued Turkish refusal of recognizing the Greek Cypriot Republic (or Cyprus).

More than a hated debate, if there are any Greeks, Greek Cypriots, Northern Cypriots or Turkish in these groups that are willing to have a sane debate, I would like to understand the Turkish motivations.

I'm fully aware of the Greek Cypriots motivations, which have been embodied partially by the UN Security Council resolutions. But I was never exposed to the turkish arguments.

I think the problem is similar to China - Taiwan issue here. So if both sides still hold up their ideals, I'm afraid this will go on forever.
