Have you heard in the news about what is currently going on in Colombia?
President Pastrana ended the peace negociations and gave the terrorist group FARC 48 hours to leave the zone given to them 3 years ago. This could be the start of a new war at Colombia.
The United States' government is fully supporting all actions and during the past 24 hours, nobody knows how this is going to end.
Any comments?

you went too far friend, I live in Colombia, I'm 17 and I don't plan to leave the following things:
-the sunset while you cycle
-the graveyard of my grandmother
-my near future university
-the beaches
-the forests
-the mountains
-the towns
-the girl that smiled to me one month ago and that I plan to see in two weeks
-my friends
-my 'arepa'
-my 'tamal'
-my old school
-the chess championships
-lot of things...
the sitiuation isn't that critical, but I need to admit that if there's a rumour about the guerrila taking Bogotą, I would be the first leaving my country but with the promise of returning.

Well, I hate to say this, but the war would take place very far away (about 800 Km away from home), I'm seriously concerned about the lives of thousands of colombians who do live in the conflict zone. And there's of course all of the reasons Camilo mentioned and thousands more. Obviously you don't understand 'patriotism' do you?
You might have said that as a joke or something like that, but you must understand that it is very hard to listen that, specially since more than 100000 colombians have left our country. And I'm not planning to add myself to that group.

I understand that I take things too seriously, you would understand if the pannorama was as sad as in Colombia, I tell you: more than one hundred thousand people have left the country (nearly 1% of the colombian population), and we've gotten a new sense of patriotism
however, this decision our president made makes me (and more than 90% of the colombian people) happy, there have been 3 years of lie after lie in the peace process, and there has been no progress. So it's time for this to end and go back to peace in our country. This decision is very strange, since it was the president, who year after year had given these terrorists more space and with that, made them stronger.
We first tried peace our way, and since it didn't work, we're now going to do it their way, by killing each other (I don't like that, but it seems that it's the only choice we've got)

well, I don't know, but the latest idea suggested that he wants the Peace Nobel price, and he was doing that to keep 'peace' in our country

Die for what? Too many people get themselves killed for no good reason, and even if they do, 50 years on no one will care even if you did it for the right reasons.
Yes I do understand what patriotism is, and I was only joking about leaving the country. But having said that, if it came down to your life or leaving your home, what would you choose? Why go and get yourself shot for the sake of your pride?
My best friend is engaged to a Columbian refugee.
He may have to go to Columbia with her if she is refused residency.
They are trying to kick her out of the country as she came here as a student and then applied for residency as a refugee. They say they will send her back even though she was abducted because of her political activities. Some of her friends were not so lucky and are still missing.
Very complicated in Columbia made infinitely worse by the wealth generated by cocaine. Take away this money and I think the war would stop. But then you take away a traditional crop hurting the subsistance farmers.
