If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

I really think XP is good enough.

I just want it for the x64 and media center capabilities. Moreso for the 64 since the 360 update allows streaming of wmvs. Maybe later they'll add something for vista/360 to stream other formats.

Bah. Media center and x64. Just go download Linux.

But yes - XP is good enough. I'd never consider switching except that Vista has DX10. That's the biggest motivation. Without that, Vista would never sell by itself (aka not OEM).

Yup, I think it doesn't use it's 15GBs well. They should just release a XP service pack with DX10.

Yes, but then how is Microsoft going to sell Vista? They need some incentive for people to buy it. (Especially the people who don't care about visuals, as that is the most noticable feature in Vista.)

The incentive is the general stupidity that new things are good.

I wonder if they'll have all the kinks worked out by then... and all the inevitable security holes patched... Seems a bit of a departure from their usual "Send it out and let the end-users beta test it for us" strategy... lol ok, that it took me 5 minutes to compose myself after laughing at that is sad... lol

Poor Microsoft. People make fun of them because of one typo.

We're not directly making fun of Microsoft. We're simply making fun of the irony that someone would write that particular typo on a product that had been delayed several times in the past. Hell, I've been waiting on getting my R600 forever, but that's been delayed and delayed with the arrival of Vista and DX10.

I'm wondering, for the upgrade versions you really aren't installing that over your system are you. I've heard that it's just cheaper because it verifies that you bought windows before, and then installs the same version as the full, not actually over the current system.
