Staying away from General.
Have used it. Like it very much. Worked without any problems for 3 flights and 1 hotel.
All the buzzt!

For the last trip I took, it was actually cheaper to book the hotel and airline separately.

I've used Hotwire and Orbitz for domestic flights and hotels and been pleased. I also used Priceline for a flight out of the country. I definitely recommend you consider requesting a crazy low rate on Priceline first before using Expedia.
The pros: You can look at Expedia, see how much rates are, and then request a rate much lower on Priceline. For example, if Expedia shows $1500 for roundtrip tickets, go on Priceline and ask for $750. Or, if you saw $500 somewhere one time, but now it is gone, suggest $505. We did this with a trip from the US to London. We had seen $375 but that price jumped to $1200 before we could buy the tickets. We went on Priceline and got the same exact flight for $500 (it was my first time so I didn't try $400).
The cons: You don't know which airline or what time the flight leaves or any of those details until you've already paid. You don't even know whether they will accept your price until you've already paid. These can be major negatives for some people. But for a trip around the world, it doesn't really matter what time you leave, right? And most airlines with that flight will be competent, so I wouldn't care which airline it was.
So if you can think of a super low price that is low enough that you wouldn't mind the cons, try priceline when you are ready to actually buy the tickets.
Be very careful with EXPEDIA. EXPEDIA ruined my trips and tried to keep (steal is the right word) the money for services that they failed to provide. Just search for "EXPEDIA complaints" in Google or Yahoo and you will read horrible stories from people that used EXPEDIA (including mine). My case is too gruesome in details. I created a website (search for "victimsofexpedia" in any search engine) to alert as many people as I can.Originally Posted by ethic

Wow, you registered just today to tell that story? Do you constantly search forums on the web looking for any mention of the site so you can warn people?
Sometimes, I have a life too. But I'm everywhere in the net alerting people. They tried to scam me , what else can I do other than alerting people?Originally Posted by jlou
They ruined my trips, they treat me like stupid just to steal 1,254.95 USD for s flight they failed to arrange with KLM. They don't care about customers because they can cheat millions of travelers that don't know them. You can be the next victim, think about that..
god this is so frightening
