yeah, that is because women don't usually do programming, but female programmers are great programmers! the only girl programmer I know is really good, I can say that she's even better than me!Originally posted by Pendragon

Pointless argument. It's like saying that red-haired programmers are not common, and therefore they are great.oskilian

Anyway, your statement "female programmers are great programmers" is based on only one person, and therefore won't tell anything about female programmers in general (if that's the info you're after, what else could it be?). And even if you did have some evidence that programmers of one gender is in general "better" that the other, you couldn't use this info anyway because no matter how much you want to label different groups of people, it just won't work that way. We all have a brain, no matter if we're males of females. And how this brain is working with programming does not depend on gender, race, hair color, etc. AS MUCH as it depends on A LOT of other properteries of the human being. Thus your generalization is wrong.
Just because a isn't b, doesn't mean that a is c. a could be d, e, f, 567, etc...
Fact: Males are generally better programmers than females. Use your common sense to define "better". But that's not what's important. What's important is to judge each person, including all of its properteries, as an individual, otherwise you will just get erroneous ideas about different groups of people just because they share the same superficial properteries, humans are too complicated to make generalizations for. Except for in some cases, but those cases are not relevant here... Most of you people are trying to use insignificant characteristics such as the gender to judge something bigger: humans. No, I mean programmers.
Anyway, oskilian, if you're going to say that this wasn't what you meant, then please explain the point with your post. I don't get it.
Damn, I got that wrong, I got EVERYTHING wrong. Well, I am very tired right now, that's the reason.
thanx pendragon...........

>Fact: Males are generally better programmers than females.
I think you are right. But that doesn't mean the females that actually work as programmers are not as good as their male counterparts. Based on above fact, I don't think women would choose programming as a career only for money or because it's easy. Those that chose programming actually like it and have a special sense for it. I guess if you count the number of good and inspired male and female programmers, it comes out maybe 2:1.
Nothing like the original 10:1 ratio. Taking this numbers as base, Osk probably has a point here. And I would work with a good female programmer any day. One inspired is better than a bunch of dull ones. No matter if it's male or female.

She was so Blonde, she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice can because it said "Concentrate."
When in doubt, read the FAQ.
Then ask a smart question.
I'm male.
What will people say if they hear that I'm a Jesus freak?
What will people do if they find that it's true?
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak, there is no disguising the truth!
