I think it's such a dumb marketing scheme to advertise bandwidths with "bits". It then gets confusing because people will abbreviate it to just a "b", and then you have no idea where Mb means megabyte or megabit. To make matters worse, most web browser use "bytes" when displaying download speeds, so to find out if you're getting the maximum bandwidth, you'll have to do division/multiplication by 8.
For the record, my bandwidth is 190 kilobytes/second.
Heh, I agree with you, joe. There is a difference between kb and kB though. It's even worse when you're using forumlae where differences between capital and their lower case relatives make all the difference, t for time/temp, and T for time/temp. And it's even worse when different subjects you study use different cap-types for the same variable ... and people talk about common standardsI won't even go into the different alphabets they use (again making reference to the capital/small letters - small and capital 'd' and 'delta' ... sigh). I doubt even wchars have enough variables to define all the variables around!

I just upgraded to FiOS which is 2.5 Megabytes/second (20 Megabits) down and 1 Megabytes/second (8 Megabits) up. Not a bad upgrade, I'm enjoying this awesome speed.
Actually, there is a difference. kbps is kilobits per second and kb/s is kilobytes per second. Remember, 8 bits to the byte. Now if it were written as KB/S (notice the capital 's'), then it would translate as kilobits per second.Originally Posted by maxorator
