I think that for the first time since I joined this board I have to disagree.

I agree with the traffic issue, expertese issue I disagree with Salem.

For each of the questions asked on the C# board, there has always been an answer ( and yes most of the time these answer come from pianorain or me but still ... )

I would certainly not like to see the C# board disappear. Pianorain and others have given me insight into some things I didn't knew about before... and vice versa as well for others with me...

This is just my opinion, which probably won't make too much of a difference since there are indeed alot less people active on the C# board then on the other boards.

EDIT: 3160 total voters?? Did I read that right?
Somebody has manipulated vote counts of course.

If you don't like MS you should close Windows board too.

But .NET is going to be more popular and more and more threads will be opened about it. It is not just about Windows, any device will run .NET (at least in MS's mind).

I agree that C++/CLI has nothing to do with C++ as C# doesn't. But why C# board? Close that board if it is useless. But while it exists there should be a C++/CLI board too. It is logical.

It wont hurt the forum at least. It is just a rename. C# will be "C++/CLI and C#".

How about a board for C derivatives, which could be a catch-all for all of C's estranged kin like C--, D, Objective-C, C++/CLI, et al. Hell, even demote the C♯ board and toss that in too.
System: Debian Sid and FreeBSD 7.0. Both with GCC 4.3.

Noo, who would dance on with behaviour like that?

Don't mix them and open another thread for each of them. Their only relativity maybe is the C character in their names.

    [edit]
    D doesn't have even that.

Not surprisingly, I agree with GanglyLamb. The C# board has taught me a thing or two, and it's kinda nice having it at Cboard where the established community keeps idiot-posting to a bare minimum. However, I have to guiltily admit that the C# board probably doesn't belong. If C# does belong, C++/CLI definately shouldn't be a part of it; the two are very different. "public private" anyone?

Ooh...sounds like a grand idea. Now I have to search through all sorts of non-related posts to learn things about C#, and the C++/CLI programmer has to do likewise to learn things about C++/CLI. Let's try to keep the noise-to-signal ratio down.
If I did your homework for you, then you might pass your class without learning how to write a program like this. Then you might graduate and get your degree without learning how to write a program like this. You might become a professional programmer without knowing how to write a program like this. Someday you might work on a project with me without knowing how to write a program like this. Then I would have to do you serious bodily harm. - Jack Klein

I vote to rename the C# board to .NET. Otherwise, you'll have a C# board, VB.NET board, C++/CLI board, ... yeah, your site turns into a Microsoft board. Just having a ".NET" forum is general enough for anyone who develops in such languages, and the traffic would be much more increased in one area rather than a smaller amount in each seperate forum.

Uh, when did anybody bring up VB.NET?

Oh I see. Here I am actually offering suggestions and trying to legitimize your precious C# board while it's being threatened with deletion, and I get the brush-off and a petty insult? In that case, I am now 100% behind Salem on this one: let's burn the C# board to the ground and throw the ashes to the winds.

Once I had this idea. But VB.NET is not a good thing to be here.

Consider my response anything you want to, but I was trying to make a point. Why have separate boards for C and C++? Because they are two obviously different languages. If I want to know about C, I can simply go the C board and find plenty of information about it without having to browse through meaningless-to-me C++ posts. It's a very simple concept of signal-to-noise.

Merging boards just because of traffic is a bad idea. Consider the current state of the Linux Programming board. Sometimes there's traffic, and sometimes there's not. The C# board is much the same. Separate boards helps to preserve the catagorization of information so that it's more easily accessible by those that would look for it. There's also no cost for having separate boards over merged boards other than a bit of visual real estate on the main forum page.

Also, you'll notice that I tend to agree with Salem, although for different reasons. Even though I'd like the C# board to stay where it is, it's entirely probable that the board is beyond the scope of this forum.

Only Microsoft could do something so silly that we can't even agree on what name the forum should have.

I say no more boards. Leave them as is and if C# is not active enough to maintain itself as a board then remove it. That's what we did with the DOS board and other boards that did not have enough traffic.

And now can we let this thread die in peace?
