    oh teh noes; I's be goin' away for a while!

    I was thinking about just giving people my password and screwing around with my account, but I might actually be able to come back to the boards in not too long.

    I'm going to Maine Maritime Academy starting August 27th. I'll be joining the Regiment of Midshipmen, and seeing as how it's my first year I won't have very much freedom, and I'm not sure how much time I'll have to even go online. The first five days is basically a mini boot camp where I get yelled at constantly (nothing like army or marine bootcamp, it's not a military academy), but it'll still suck.

    Here are some pictures of last years RPT (regiment prep training):

    Hopefully, once I graduate, I will have obtained a US Coast Guard unlimited tonnage license (I'm going in for Marine Engineering Operations, but I hope to move up to Marine Systems Engineering, which is a five year program) and be making an assload of money. I also plan on getting an anchor tatooed to my arm when I graduate

    Wish me luck and stuff!

    I couldn't, for the life of me, be anywhere closer than 10 feet from anything armed forces related. But hey... good luck and have fun!

    Why not go and study for Maritime officer ( I dont know the correct name actually but that's how it's called here - Belgium that is ).

    That way you could start as third officer on commercial ships ( containers or whatever ). They make good money as well ( depending which company employs you ), but I know from personal experience - actually my brother since he's second officer - that Wagenborg is not too bad to go with.

    One disadvantage although I don't know if it'll be any different from what you plan on doing, is that normally you will be working for 3 months or something without returning home, then have something like 1.5 month paid leave and over and over again.

    Whatever you decide to do, good luck !

    @Gangly:
    I think Merchant Marine might be what you are talking about, and they do have that offered at the school.

    I just want to reiterate that this isn't a military academy, rather it's only a military style academy. If you want military, you still have to go through ROTC or OCS for Navy, Marine Corps and ARMY. I think I'm content with just getting the degree.

    Thanks for the support! You guys rock!

    I'm sure Bubba will figure it out soon enough, and it might turn out that I can go still go online more than I think (I'll certainly be programming whenever I have spare time, but they do regulate what you can even do on computers, e.g. no games on CDs).
