I both agree with you, and see some flaw in what you say indigo! It depends on what they play though, and how they play it!

If you're talking about meshuggah, their tempos are relatively slow.

I was speaking in general on what I've observed of some fast metal players. I like music that I can listen to several times and break down into drums, guitar, base, etc etc. Some metal I've heard is just so jumbled I cant tell drums from a kazoo.

I agree with you on that on indigo! it's nice to be able to pick out instruments from a song, without having to guess. Kinda like ingredients in a good meal i guess.

That's how some people like it, aka grindcore.

I personally like to listen to metal because I experience the song as a whole, I can't pick out the guitars or bass or anything.

On an unrelated note I was watching some drum solos of the drummer for Dave Mathhews band and wonder if there are drummers that good in metal bands.

I'm going to say probably on that one indigo. Do you have a video of the drummer? the drummer from Led Zeppelin was a beast!

it's hard to compare since they play completely different styles

    fusion is cool

danny carey, thomas haake, and neil peart are great drummers though

Carter Beauford is his name. I saw an article where he got a drumstick stuck in his eye during one of his solos. In one of his solos he does some crazy stuff, plus his setup is pretty badass.
