    Music stuffs... metal

    Hey,

I was just curious if there is anyone else here who is into Extreme Power Metal... I am tring to find some new music to purchase, but it is always a PITA to find good bands though all the crap that is out there...

DragonForce (fathers of the Genre) are pretty much my favorite at the moment... anyone know some other good bands that are related to Power Metal (or maybe some Melodic Death Metal) The screaming guitar solos / duels and speed of it is really what I love about it.

    Rhapsody i guess.

I can't listen to power metal for more than a couple minutes, it's just a huge cheesefest.

Check out Meshuggah. Death metal rules.

I have a lot of Rhapsody already, good suggestion though...

I will check them out... but I don't like much death metal, I am pretty picky when it comes to screaming or gutteral singers.

I like one song from nightwish, dead gardens. I listen to a lot of anime/game music and the only real metal ones I have are the Guilty Gear soundtracks. Sometimes I listen to shoutcast metal stations, some gothic stations and such. I don't like a lot of metal because the lyrics are either borderline satanic, just plain negative (yeah, I really want to hear about holocost of death and burning flesh, kthnks), or annoying. Fear Factory is the exception, I love them, evne though I only have one soundtrack. But I love all kinds of music, but I only really listen to anime, game, movie soundtracks.

indigo, you should check out DragonForce, Demons and Wizards, Blind Guardian, Dark Moor, and Firewind... most of their songs are about adventures and stuff... it is like D&D meets Metal.

yeah, I've heard some european stuff like those, but the LoTR stuff kind of amuses me when I listen to it. The music is great, and the lyrics aren't negative, but it's just funny how they can be seriously D&D, yet be so metal. Guilty Gear is kind of like that stuff but it's only the instrumentals, and a little harder, almost like some of the non-euro metal.

Uh, medevil power metal is as bad as it gets.

If you're into that whole medevil thing but don't want cheesy music that's almost unbarable to listen to, check out neo-folk. Great genre.

Also, Meshuggah's screams are more barable than most bands. He has a grungy voice from drinking a lot so it's not sharp pitched. They're a math band so expect crazy ........ing time signitures.

Here is one of their videos. Here is a good bootleg. Enjoy.

All of their albums are awesome, not a single bad one. Arguably one of the best drummers in the world, as well as a highly respected lead guitarist.

Here is a cool video of Haake (meshuggah's drummer) along with danny carey. Probably the best percussion performance ever.

math band? C'mon, some of these classifications are as silly as LoTR metal. I assume someone who's failed math named crazy metal "math metal"

I didn't name it, but have you listened to their music? Tell me what time signiture that video is in.

You're probably going to laugh at me, but if you want to check out crazy 'math' time signatures, you should check out flamenco music (completely in tune (get it, hahahahaha), with the current genres being discussed).

I recommend Paco de Lucia beyond anyone else! He looks like Bill from Kill Bill, and he's an unbelieveable guitarest.

But if you want a short crazy guitar-ing, check out this guy here. He looks funny, but man is he talented.

(Sorry for my guitar rant. But you have to appreciate these people! No matter what kind of music you like/don't like!)

There were two links there divineleft, which one did you mean. But yeah, you're right, I messed up my links. Fixing as we speak with the new jazzy edit box

EDIT: I actually didn't give any examples of funny timings. I was just saying in general, flamenco music has funny timings. Somewhere in the hour of Paco there will funny tunings though.

I'm not really "impressed" as easily as some just because they can play fast. I've heard slow playing jazz musicians with more talent than fast bop players. I want good music, regardless of it being fast and loud. Honestly some of these fast metal guitarist I've heard sound like they just strum one or two strings really fast.
