Anyone in Aust who has just done their VCE

    Hey all;

I know most of you wont care too much about this, but i find it soooo annoying i have to share it with you all.

Has anyone here just finished there VCE from Australia? The reason i ask is because i just finished mine. This year was the year the education department introduced a new style of VCE. it was based around these things called SACS. anyway there was an artical in the news paper that said, in my school only 3% of students got above 40% and that in victoria only 30% of students got about 45%. You know why the scores were so much lower, its because when we did these SACS, the teachers wernt allowed to tell us what mark we got on them. They wernt even allowed to tell us what we did wrong, or help us out with any mistakes we had. HOW THE HELL WERE WE MENT TO LERN...?

okay i feel a bit beter now i have blown off some steam.

Sorry to cry to you all, it wont happen again.

    have a MERRY X-MAS! xxx
arrh, i got nothing good to say.

G'day 15th! How's the weather down in Victoria? It's looking to be a hot one here for Christmas.

I spent my high school years in Queensland, and finished in '99. We had to do a series of tests called the QCST (Queensland Core Skills Test). The depending on how you do, combined with your school results determines your OP (Overall position), ranking from 1 (highest) to 25 (lowest). This basically determines what course you can get into at uni (I think you guys have a similar thing don't you?). Anyhow, I got a 13. My school went pretty poorly overall on the QCST, averaging from high D's to C's, and the average OP was >16

    >>They wernt even allowed to tell us what we did wrong, or help us out with any mistakes we had. HOW THE HELL WERE WE MENT TO LERN...? <<

Same here on the QCST. We had a series of practice runs, but we didn't get any of our work back, bar one written essay that we had to do. And talk about a load of bs questions...none of my studies had hardly anything to do at all with the tests. Basically they test your knowledge on Maths, English, and Science, but despite doing all three, the questions were that of university level stuff. Even the top guys at our school found the QCST hard.

My opinion of the VCSE, HSC, and QCST is that they are all just a huge waste of time. They are all so poorly constructed. I just hate standardised tests

I finished school quite a while a go.

The year after I finished they decided it was too hard and changd the rules. Went from TAE to TEE.

When I did it your whole mark was based on your last 3 hour exam. I did seven in four days. Plus the scaling test the week before.

Twelve years of school riding on eight exams days.

Standerdized test realy don't work, since they don't show how the student actuly does. (aka that kid who basicly teaches the class but then bombs his test) Test, along with other things can measure an indivuals capilbility's but not an entire schools.

We keep funnuling monney into schools and performance has droped. Yet no one notices that, were doing something wrong. Probley the most important reason is to many teachers primary goal is monney.

PS I live in the states.

I used to live in New Zealand, and let's just say I'm not exactly pro-European socialist education. I prefer the American way... which is probably why we moved here..
