    Good online games thread

Well, my much earned vacations just started and strangely I donīt have any game to play. Thereīs always a few months every year where Im left with this emotional void!
While single player games are fun (waiting for Oblivion to come out), I always want an online game to keep me interested for 1 year or more.
My latest attempt was Guild wars, which unfortunely didnīt last very long.

One of the games I had the most fun with was Jedi Academy, which I only had the chance to play because it came with my soundblaster, otherwise I would never have heard of it.
So itīs in this sense that I'm making this post. So we can talk about online games that are good but are not the popular ones like doom, half life, wow, guild wars and so on.

Well, I'll explain more about jedi academy. I think itīs the only game of itīs kind, a first person shooter where you can use force powers like lightning, grip, mind trick, and also spend years practicing saber use without learning it all.
There are lots of different game types. In CTF, you will never use your saber, and will run arround shooting people and using force powers. In siege, you will pick a custom class, like scout(sniper), jedi, heavy arms and such and try with your team to push the defending team back. There are also duel servers, power duel, free for all and so on.
Within FFA, you can find saber only servers, lugormod servers ( where you have to find stashes and deposit them, earning credits and leveling up in a chosen profession of jedi or mercenary), academy servers where you learn to play and so on.

The cons is that the game is kind old, and since itīs a user server online game, you may not be happy with how the admin handles things and find yourself often frustrated. Itīs my case, I was addcited to 1 of the lugormod servers (it was the only one in my opinion with a well made map), and the admin decides it would be fun for 2 weeks to change to a christimas map with no way of leveling up. The server is empty now, people complaining on the forums, and the admin says "why are you so resistant to change?".
But since itīs the only of itīs kind, you can understand why people still invest heavily on online communities, servers, and user made mods, like Lugormod.

You're very, very wrong. There are at least 3 games like this that I can think of off the top of my head. Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast, and one other are all like this.

    I want this NOW!

From what I know jedi outcast, the other one and jedi academy are all part of the Jedi knight series, Jedi academy being the newest.

Oblivion is gonna be nice, I'm waiting for Call of cthulhu for PC too.

Well yeah. Since Jedi Knight's the official Star Wars FPS series, I don't know why you'd expect to find a Star Wars FPS anywhere else.

To actually contribute to this, I'll add Tetrinet. It's simple and silly, but super addicitve and it used to have a pretty good sized following here.

Jedi Academy blew the big one online, JK2: Jedi Outcast was far superior. After they nuked the kicks and saber attacks (back attack spin!), it got crappier though. Jedi Academy was basically 10 noobs on a server with Force Lighting (3) spamming each other until there was one left.

Yeah, I donīt think JA is really balanced, so you have to go after those kinds of servers I said.
I used to play tetrinet, itīs really addictive.

Really the bottom of the pit when you have cash, you want to buy a game, but theres nothing to buy.

I was so ........ed at the clerk when he told me Oblivion got pushed back to next year.

What honestly surprises me is that we have a thousand first person shooter and RTS clones yet how come there isn't any other game out there like Morrowind? Or if there is, maybe I just don't know about it.

I've been asking arround a lot and reading sites and no, I donīt think thereīs anything else. All online games are the same. Pay per month point and click no real skill needed other than common sense, pure FPS, and so on.

Edit: In case someone wants to give it a shot, www.gunzonline.com
I downloaded the beta and the game crashed when after the loadings

Not my kind of game, itīs turn based like Final Fantasy. But if you are into this, this game is very well made and looks fun.
Itīs on open beta right now.
