    wallpaper problem ....

This problem has started suddenly. I don't have any idea as to how it got triggered. Everytime i start up Windows (win95), my wallpaper disappears and i have to open that jpeg file and set it as wallpaper. It is really very frustrating to see my wallpaper vanish in front of me. All i am left with is a blank screen with the desktop icons in place, though.
    Thanks for any help,

I have an even better one.

Whenever i restart (about 7 thousand times a day as i have Win98) my background switches to my old background during powerdown and during bootup. However when bootup is complete, my real background appears. Heres the kicker... My old background no longer exists on my computer. I deleted it.

    But wait, theres more.

At one point in time a long long time ago i edited my shutdown screen. You know, the one that says "Windows is shutting down" with the windows logo and everything. Well i added my own image for fun. Well anyhow it got boring so i changed it back a year or so ago.... No dice. I deleted the altered shutdown image and replaced it with the origional but it still show my customized image which no longer exists on my harddrive.

It all goes to prove my theory that my computer is possessed.

Check your themes. The background image durring startup and shutdown is the one taken from the theme or when you right click and say set as wallpaper. Took me a while to figure that one out.
Could it be that the image was from an online source and is no longer available?

I to have a possessed computer.
Mine sometimes restarts, without warning. When I’m programming, surfing, or gaming. Wham, screen goes blank and a nice fresh restart. Don’t think it is a virus, checked with Norton anti-virus (updates itself every week or so). And he finds nothing.

Oh, thats barely the half of it! Other possession symptoms include (but are not limited to):

    a) Mouse Right-Clicks cause Left-Click results and occasionally additionally found with Left-Click having no effect

    b) Keyboard only outputs CAPS characters as if one were holding shift. Holding shift does NOT usually produce lowercase characters... On some occasions it has.

    c) System freezes for no reason when doing literally nothing. You can still use the mouse and anything that highlights when the mouse is over it will still highlight. Cant use keyboard. Cant Cntl-Alt-Del. Mouse clicks have no effect.

    d) System will hang at shut down. The Reboot screen comes up and never goes away.

    e) My DX Documentation shortcut was assigned my Diablo II icon. I thought this rather apt but it was still confusing as i never assigned it this icon and the shortcut properties still told me that it had the default icon... Nothing could make the Devils Head go away. Assigning a new icon had no effect.

    f) Occasionally i will run applications that cause the "wait" cursor to appear as they load but they never do. An instance of the application can be found in the Close Program box but does not actually run. More instances will be added if the application is run again.

    g) When shutting down certain applications (RealPlayer, Netscape, VC6, and a few others) they will occasionally generate a General Protection Fault error once they terminate... The msg box states that "This application has performed and illegal operation and will be shut down." Gee... Thanks.

    h) And of course there's the reboot/startup image weirdness that i mentioned in the earlier post.

I dare anyone to say that my computer isn't possessed. The proof is unrefutable. Please excuse me now as its been nearly an hour and i have to go sacrifice a chicken or i wont be able to surf the net for the rest of the evening.

LoL that's funny Lightatdawn ....sounds like you have some problems there. All right so it's not funny but.....at least you have a sense of humor about it.

In Win2k it always does that to me as well ....The previous wallpaper I had ..is always displayed at startup and when I open the task manager....even though it's not on my computer anymore....and my current wallpaper is always just disappearing ...what in the HE double hockey sticks is going on here? At least my icons don't disappear. ::Knock on wood::
