    out of curiosity...

Is there any version of visual basic thats free? At school, I feel like i'm the only one who doesn't know visual basic, even though it has nothing to do with the course or anything really, i just wanted to learn it and play around with it just to have the knowledge...so I was wondering, thanks in advance

Here ya go, it's a Microsoft Express Edition. It's free for one year I believe, which should be good for your purposes, also it's probably better then what you use at school. You are probably using VB6.....that outdated piece of crap..wait...VB is a piece of crap. Anyway, here is the link, just don't ask about VB around a C++ forum. LOL! http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vb/

The .NET compiler is also free, it's only the visual studio IDE that you pay for. Just download the .NET SDK. The compiler is vbc.exe.
The crows maintain that a single crow could destroy the heavens. Doubtless this is so. But it proves nothing against the heavens, for the heavens signify simply: the impossibility of crows.

The Express Editions have a number of languages, such as C#,C++, J#, VB, and Visual Web Developer. They are pretty good for the hobbyist, or just someone who wants to learn about a language, as a sort of "trial". Too bad they are only free for a year. Too bad Microsoft makes too much money, also. Anyway, have fun!

Note, that I am not an "elitist" or "1337". LOL! People are funny.

Clarification: The Express editions are free forever, but only free to download for 1 year.

I just ran the setup program through wine and got this message:
This product cannot be installed on Microsoft Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0, or earlier. You must upgrade your operating system to Windows 2000 or later before installing this product.
thought that was worth a chuckle.

Yes, express editions are not crippleware in that they cease to function after a set time period. They are free forever once you have them, but are only available for download for 1 year, which I suspect will change as well.
