Is it only me or am I the only one that has a problem with going from each.
When I am on my laptop I need something off my desktop (eample: a program thats installed on my desktop thats not installed on my laptop and I have to go install it on one or the other).
Anyone else have this same problem? Seems like there would be some type of "Sync" button or something to sync the two systems or something :-/ or maybe some type of CVS or something. Sorry I am just ranting

Somebody needs to introduce you to radmin(Remote Administrator). Use its file transfer feature to retrieve the files you usually run to manually get. Its remote desktop control feature is also much better than window's standard. What I do is I have 10+ desktop computers in my house and one laptop, I administrate and use them all manually straight from my laptop alone.

Its an AWESOME laptop IMO (2.0ghz Centrino, 1GB ram, GF 6600 Go, 60GB 7200 RPM HDD, 3.5-4 hours of battery life while just surfing the net or programming).

Disclaimer: I don't know anything about RAID.
Get two portable hard disks and try and set them up in a RAID configuration so the data on one matches the data on the other. When the laptop is disconnected they should be OK apart, and when the laptop is connected they should syncronise automatically. Easy peasy!
Umm.. Sysop_fb, that doesn't help the problem at all.
And stovellp, you can't do that with RAID. First of all, anything you'd change on one would be completely overwritten by the RAID everytime you hook them up. Secondly, I don't even think you can (or should) connect a laptop harddrive and a desktop harddrive to the same RAID configuration, especially a mirrored one. Mirrored RAID arrays typically require the same type/size of drives to work properly. And finally, how do you propose connecting the two? You'd have to open the laptop each time you wanted to connect them, unless you're talking external drives, but then, that's just silly.

How so all I got out of it was he wanted an easy way to share files between his PC and his laptop. Which all you'd need would be a crossover cable
On 'syncing' the hard drives'... in regards to the post on installing programs... you could just keep all of the installation programs in one file and share them accross your network keeping them in sync(how you do this(the sharing and the syncing) is operating system dependant).
Actually doing some sort of mirroring of the drives just to keep from installing a program and sending the install program to the other computer and installing it again? Would involve mirroring the drives and/or ghosting the drives. The only problem would once again be operating system dependant windows might be able to recover more easy from going to and coming from a laptop then linux(which would either require you to have a generic kernel which supports both or to recompile the kernel each time).
Unless I'm totally missing the questions or something :O either way more coffee I go to get.
