The website should consider getting an IRC chatroom. It's nice and easy to set up and could be fun.
If there is a chatroom somewhere on this site, I give you all permission to laugh at me.

It's been tried...and tried...Interest never lasts long, though.

I used to hang out in the #c and #c++ channels on IRC years ago, it was mainly two types of people: complete newbie wanna-be-hax0rz, and elitist who thought anyone who wanted to do something they didn't want to do was a moron.
There is a good quantity of interesting people right here on the board. If we could get them to come in once and a while, I think it could work.
...but if it's been tried before, I could understand your opinion.
Also if you hang out in general channels like #c or #c++ you're gonna get people like that. If you make a forum specific chatroom, you get alot more interested people.

Here's a thread from a while back.
You could always try to start the #csupport channel up again. Who knows, maybe it would last longer this time

Yes! This is my destiny. I will lead the board to a new chatroom on the horizon. Come good citizens, come and join me. There will be festivities and free virtual booze.
Ok, I get your point. No one will join.
Thanks for a good reply. It's good to see this issue has arose in the past.

The horizon is already beneath our feet, but I support your cause
People actually learn a lot from sitting in chatrooms O.o
I hang out in #eroticdougfanfic on ZIRC all the time

Ehhh... that wouldn't be the old Nickelodeon show, would it? Cause that's just... well I mean, Patty Mayonaisse... yeah that's just wrong.Originally Posted by Govtcheez
Anyway, I checked out #C and #C++ on DalNet and they were far from interesting. I think DaniWeb's chatroom might get more action. So if there is no interest in a C++ chatroom, then I see no reason to start one, but if there are enough people here willing to join, then it could be a good idea.

well, I opened and registered #Tech on 72.20.18.117 if anybody's interested. it'll probably die off real fast (if anybody even joins in the first place), but I figured why not give it a shot? there are already a bunch of established C/C++ help places, but it'd be nice to have our own...
if you don't have an IRC client, you can use the java chat from this site and type /join #Tech in the window that comes up.
If people are intersted, we'll figure out ops and hops and voice and whatnot later...
Server: 72.20.18.117
Channel: #Tech
edit: if you use the java chat, it'll bring you into #pxr.org. to get out of there type /part #pxr.org and then type /join #Tech. at some point you should also type /nick <somenick> and replace <somenick> with the nickname you want to be known as... and yes, there are services, so you can always reg your nick if you wanted.
edit2: just fyi, that server's small, but not so small nobody knows about it. It's usually behind the mask irc.phoenixradio.org, but recent server changes has temporarily disabled that... well, actually it's at phoenixradio.ardinmcallister.com for now... that's the site of one of the IRCop's that I know...
