I favor Japanese Cartoons because they have better pictures (way better) and they have decent sound.

I love American cartoons...the old ones at least. Loony Toons was the best. As for the Japanese cartoons, I would rather poke out my own eyes with a spork then watch them. But thats just me.
Anime Rules!!!
What will people say if they hear that I'm a Jesus freak?
What will people do if they find that it's true?
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak, there is no disguising the truth!

I like old American cartoons. New ones are just horrible.

neither! I don't enjoy cartoons, I only watch The Simpsons, but not for it's graphics nor it's sound. I enjoy the topics.

Osk, why did you post here when you are not interested in the topic??

The only modern american cartoon I like is Dextor's Lab. And South Park but I don't consider that a cartoon.

You need to look at it as an adult. Takes on a whole new meaning.
I think American cartoons suffer from mass production / comercialization. All go down hill after they become too popular.
"Man alone suffers so excruciatingly in the world that he was compelled to invent laughter."
Friedrich Nietzsche
"I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars......the rest I squandered."
George Best
"If you are going through hell....keep going."
Winston Churchill
Animes and Mangas all the way. Not the series. Series are crap most of the time. Nice pictures but boring and predictable story. Go for the real movies:
Ghost in a shell
Great story, great pictures... my favorite.
Perfect Blue
Pictures are average. Story is like straight from a Hitchcock thriller. Amazing.
Record of Lodoss War
13 Parts of a great stereotypical fantasy story.

She was so Blonde, she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice can because it said "Concentrate."
When in doubt, read the FAQ.
Then ask a smart question.
I beg to differ, series rule.
As a note to those who hate anime: You probably have never seen any. The dubs which are easy to get here are usually trash. They're censored, rearranged, dubbed by low-quality voice actors, and usually ruin the original story altogether. Dubs have improved, but the majority, especially the televised ones, are so altered they're practically completely different series altogether. I mean, they will actually redo the entire plot arc in some anime.
There are a huge number of great anime series, and the newest ones are better yet.
Good series:
Excel Saga
Utena (the movie is even better, tho)
Jubei-chan
Ayashi no Ceres
Eden's Bowy
Now and Then, Here and There
Daa! Daa! Daa!
El Hazard (the OAV series)
Final Fantasy Unlimited
Star Ocean Ex
Jungle wa itsumo Hale nochi Guu
Hellsing
Hikaru no Go
Inuyasha
Pretear
Silent Mobius
Good movies:
The Adolescence of Utena
Grave of the Fireflies
Mononoke Hime
The problem with a lot of the anime series + movies that come over is that they are primarily of two types: children's anime, and action anime. Judging the genre by the poorly dubbed, censored, and redone versions would be like judging all american cinema + television by watching Barney and Arnold Schwarzanneger movies poorly dubbed into another language. As an example, Grave of the Fireflies is a drama that has far more in common with Schindler's List than it does with any cartoon I've seen. There is a wealth of anime which targets all kinds of audiences, in the way that American film does. The tiny bits you may see are insignificant compared to the huge variety of stuff that exists.
I think the comparison is simply invalid. In America, cartoons are a niche market -- they target only the young children or the comedy markets. In Japan, anime is produced of a million different forms, targetting everyone from young children to adults.
Sure, there's bad anime (although even the worst anime is usually not AS bad if you watch the original versions; sometimes the originals are vastly superior). But simply because some crap gets made doesn't mean that it's all bad. Simply because America makes movies like Biodome, or Dude, Where's My Car, doesn't mean that it can't also produce films like Gone with the Wind, Schindler's List, etc.
Bottom line: Yes, there's crap, but there's also tons of good stuff.

Ok, you are right. Fact is they only show children anime series here. The stuff I download from the net is great, but most of the time thats full movies. I admit I don't know most of those you listed

i like the japanese ones better, athough i do like the simpsons. over here (in the netherlands) there is only dragonball, dragonball Z, and some stuff that i presume is immitation. i read dragonball quite alot
I like japanese animation very much.
Anime I prefer are Shinseiki Evangelion, Blue Submarine no. 6 and Cowboy Bepop.
Anyway I think I couldn't choose beetwen Japanese and American animation, IMHO they're too different in style and topic.
