    War with China

It's not something I like to think about, but it's hard to go a day without hearing something in the news about China. I have a newspaper [1] next to me that tells of the Chinese Communist Parties (CCP) "Unrestricted Warfare" policy.

Of course, you can't trust everything you read in newspapers or see on TV - unless it also appears on Slashdot. You have to take all of this stuff with a grain of salt and wonder why the reporters wrote and published the articles in the newspapers.

China is the biggest country via population, and their economy is getting stronger and stronger. They also seem to be putting increasing pressure on Taiwan, and they are accused of threatening the use of nuclear weapons against the United States.

Now, I have never liked a single American I have met in person (and I've met a few). Especially texans. But I am grateful we have the United States as the single world power, because it means that I (as an Australian) and my way of life are relatively safe. Hell, looking at the stats, without the United States, China could probably take on most of the world (at least Australia, England, France, Spain and the three Canadian mounties that rock up) and win.

I don't know about you guys, but the whole prospect of China becoming a world power someday is pretty scary, at least as long as they are lead by the CCP. And if the United States goes, we probably all will.

Is it just here in Sydney, or are you guys in the US and over the world hearing a lot of scary stuff about China too? How much do you think is actually true?

Oh, and I want to finish by saying I have nothing against the Chinese - I love Lemon Chicken and I work with a couple of Chinese people and they're very nice people. I just don't like (what I've heard of, if it's true) the CCP.

[1] - This particular newspaper is the Epoch Times, a free paper given out by some strange looking people for free. I believe it's avaliable in the United States too. That said, I've seen similar stores in other commercial papers and on TV.

no one stays at the top forever. besides I like me some general tsao's chicken. additionally, chinese women are kinda hot and they aren't all about bling. china will probably be a world power someday. they have good work ethics, good economy, good sized military, mad technology... let's just hope we remain allies.

Personally I don't think it'll be long before they start secretly constructing psychic beacons throughout Africa, Asia, Europe and South America under the guise of industrial investment. Then they'll mind control most of the world's population and begin a final push into the US.

Oh, and they'll have giant squiddies too, to deal with the pesky US Navy.

Have you ever seen two such economically bound nations go to war with one another?

At least we know nothing will happen before the summer of 2008, anyway...

    But Paul, I like you

I don't think we'll be going to be making any move against China for quite some time. We'll be tied up in Afghanistan and Iraq for the forseeable future, and there are other priorities above them (Iran, NK).

Also, I love me some Hunan Beef.

We get to hear a lot about Bush, not China really.

Most Americans I have met travelling have been a real pain. Those I've worked with here were fine, and whilst travelling in the US, on their own turf, I found most of them to be friendly nice people. Some cities are very rough though.

Most Chinese I've met travelling or on business were very polite but somewhat "stiff" or formal I guess. Whilst travelling in China, again, the people were really friendly/hospitable in most parts and insatiably curious about foreigners and the rest of the world. Even in the big cities like Canton and Shanghai, you never feel threatened.

The Taiwan situation is perhaps the biggest stumbling block to Sino - West relations. I don't think China really cares much for North Korea and the trouble they might cause.

I personally don't hear a LOT about China, although I've heard rumblings here and there. I'm not personally afraid of China because while they are the largest populated country, I don't think they have the resources the US does and I think in a head to head, we'd still probably take them.

And to those of you saying we're not all that nice, you should see your own countries from the outside. The time I spent in Europe left me with kind of a sour taste in my mouth (but that could be because I spent most of it in France). I have no problem with Swedish people for the most part (I work with them all the time), but everyone else is always so down on us that it's hard for us to like them back. The whole time I was in France, I was constantly told how much Bush sucks, and how we're so awful for everything we're doing... yet no one realizes how much good we do despite the whole Iraq situation.

Everyone likes to ........ on the big guy for the little stuff he screws up on, but no one pats him on the back for the help he offers otherwise.

Thats very true, although I can't see how anyone could dislike an Australian, except the poms because they're sour over us beating them at every conceivable sport. Being the only super power, the USA is really in a "daddy" situation. When two countries fight, Daddy is expected to step in and sort it out, even when the other countries don't want them to. The USA does a lot for peace, but when they do something someone doesn't like, all hell seems to break loose. A lot of people act like couch-coaches in sports - the USA does something, and everyone else has an opinion on how it should have been done. But they were never in that position, and if they were, they would have done the same thing.

What sucks is we win the ashes every single time, yet they stay in England. We don't get to take them home. It's like you don't trust us. It's not as if we're decended from criminals or anything!

The next wars involving US and other countries will be held in the middle east. The world's oil production will start to decline soon and a nation's oil consuption is very closly tied to its GDP. This is very, very troubling. USA and other countries in Europe and Asia will do anything to get oil.

BTW, USA doesn't have a chance to invade China.

I don't know about that. We're really pushing alternative energy sources and Bush has even offered up tax-cuts starting in 06 for anyone that owns a hybrid vehicle (higher efficiency = higher tax cut).

Hell, even my company (Volvo - heavy duty trucks) is looking into hybrid technology.

Now don't get me wrong, there is still a huge issue with oil running out, but I think we're making steps towards becoming independent of it.
