It's not something I like to think about, but it's hard to go a day without hearing something in the news about China. I have a newspaper [1] next to me that tells of the Chinese Communist Parties (CCP) "Unrestricted Warfare" policy.
Of course, you can't trust everything you read in newspapers or see on TV - unless it also appears on Slashdot. You have to take all of this stuff with a grain of salt and wonder why the reporters wrote and published the articles in the newspapers.
China is the biggest country via population, and their economy is getting stronger and stronger. They also seem to be putting increasing pressure on Taiwan, and they are accused of threatening the use of nuclear weapons against the United States.
Now, I have never liked a single American I have met in person (and I've met a few). Especially texans. But I am grateful we have the United States as the single world power, because it means that I (as an Australian) and my way of life are relatively safe. Hell, looking at the stats, without the United States, China could probably take on most of the world (at least Australia, England, France, Spain and the three Canadian mounties that rock up) and win.
I don't know about you guys, but the whole prospect of China becoming a world power someday is pretty scary, at least as long as they are lead by the CCP. And if the United States goes, we probably all will.
Is it just here in Sydney, or are you guys in the US and over the world hearing a lot of scary stuff about China too? How much do you think is actually true?
Oh, and I want to finish by saying I have nothing against the Chinese - I love Lemon Chicken and I work with a couple of Chinese people and they're very nice people. I just don't like (what I've heard of, if it's true) the CCP.
[1] - This particular newspaper is the Epoch Times, a free paper given out by some strange looking people for free. I believe it's avaliable in the United States too. That said, I've seen similar stores in other commercial papers and on TV.
