i hear a lot of things about china that say they need to have a good ass kicking to let them know they arn't the biggest fish, they's just a big fat bully.

Now, I have never liked a single American I have met in person (and I've met a few). Especially texans.
    <

what kind have you been meeting? most of us are nice?... but we dont like Australians... see why below...

    >We'll be tied up in Afghanistan and Iraq for the forseeable future, and there are other priorities above them (Iran, NK).
    <

the Iraqi army is pretty much trained... i think most of ours are there incase anything politically "unsavory" happens... the country is still highly unstable.

and yeah Iran, and NK are priority...

    >although I can't see how anyone could dislike an Australian

your a bunch of stuck up (woman mistreating) wankers?
we dont like dude's who mistreat women here... specially after they steal them from us(and then send them back broken)... you ........ing bastards with your stereo-type of accents... and better looks, and rugged manish sexiness, and wild adventurs.... what bolloks... thats why we hate you...
and your "men"(poncies) all over our movies... YUK....

    >The next wars involving US and other countries will be held in the middle east. The world's oil production will start to decline soon and a nation's oil consuption is very closly tied to its GDP. This is very, very troubling. USA and other countries in Europe and Asia will do anything to get oil.
    <

    nice...

    >BTW, USA doesn't have a chance to invade China.

hmm... i doubt they can properly equip and supply their 200 million troops in combat... even if they could the military resistance wouldn't be that much of a problem...
occupation would be a bit tricky since the entire population is pretty much Anti-U.S. though i dont see quite the upsurge of resistance we have in Iraq... but its easily possible.

I'd love to see some proof of this. Anything at all from a reputable source.

not off hand... thats just what i've been read in the news lately...

edit: i should point out that most of their units still are heavily reliant on U.S. C&C over operations.

If you've read it in the news, surely there's a source available you can link to.

The USA and China are too far away to get in a real war...We'd have to agree to a miniturized scale model of the war on Hawaii, which I think would be a very agreeable place for all soldiers etc. involved.

We won't be in Iraq forever because unlike South Korea they do not want US troops there. Basically, we're going to be there until the Iraqi army is well-equipped and ready to defend Iraq. I don't have any source that suggest how trained that army is, and everytime I DO hear a figure it gets disputed because there are varying degrees of what it means to have a ready army (not just size mind you...North Korea's army is estimated to be at about 1 million strong, our army is approx 400,000, combined with the US Marine corps of just under 200,000 that makes about 600,000 servicemen that make up our total troop strength).

I don't believe we are in *that* much of a threat with China. I believe they are an emerging power as everyone suggests, but what, exactly, does the world think China is going to do? Take Taiwan perhaps? Invade Europe? Prevent us from taking military action against North Korea? Perhaps all of the above, but likely none of the above.

It amuses me how people can be idiotic to such an extent that they can make broad, profound conclusions based off of their own personal (and ultimately anecdotal) experiences. My (Texan cowboy) hat goes off to you. Even though you go on to say good things about the USA, I can't believe you have the audacity to just kind of 'throw that in there' as if it matters.

I'm an ethnic Chinese from Singapore studying in Scotland, and I live with 2 mainland Chinese who often tell me what's life like back in the mother country.

From my discussions with them, it seems like the mainland Chinese like America and American culture in general. There's no real history of serious conflict between America and China (although there is some between Britain and China). Basically all the Chinese want is to live the good life, just like the West.

As for war: It's unlikely that Taiwan will declare independence anytime soon, so I doubt there's going to be any war in the near future. There will be plenty of economic conflict though, as the current oil prices shoot up.

Hard to believe that we were probably the biggest drug dealers in history, but there we go. In those times, it seems that it was simply money that mattered, nothing else. Money bought wars, wars bought control.

    Have we changed that much?

Are you spastic? I said I've never liked one I've met in person. I'm so sorry for making broad, profound conclusions based on my own personal experiences ABOUT MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCES. I didn't say I dislike all Americans, just the ones I've met.

I agree, I don't believe we could successfully invade and occupy China. Although, I do believe we could stop China from occupying another part of the world, based on our technology and otherwise strong worldwide alliances (all of which are, perhaps, subject to change).

The news about China is designed to keep us scared. If we were not so scared we might realise that we can all live happy comfortable lives (if only the 5% who owns 80% of this world would share...)

I think that the worst case scenario is the US causing a conflict with China in an attempt to hold on to the US hegemony.

The US's 50 year reign as super power is coming to a close (as super powers are economic, rather than military, these decades).

China or the UN will be next. As humans (politicians) can never agree, it will be China.....

    >>The world's oil production will start to decline soon and a nation's oil consuption is very closly tied to its GDP. This is very, very troubling. USA and other countries in Europe and Asia will do anything to get oil.

    We already have....

USA (et al) in Iraq and Australia in Timor.

Oil (petrol) is only going to get more expensive from here.

    >>We're really pushing alternative energy sources

    Hahahahaha...oh you were serious....

    >>i doubt they can properly equip and supply their 200 million troops in combat...

and its not like a few thousand determined Iraqis, armed with what they can steal, has held up 140,000 US marines for a couple of YEARS.....and will continue to do so for a few more.

I suggest you look at the ways our troops have been killed in Iraq.
Then look at how our troops were killed in Vietnam.
    Notice anything?

Its because they are cheap, easy to construct and unmanned.

I can't beleive you linked to FOX in a serious discussion......

Be scared if the japanese rules the super powers i dont think there are any country in the world in WW2 that was more brutal than the japanese . No offense to the japanese here. This is only what i here from my grandmothers and grandfathers. Anywayw without the japanese there would be no cheap appliances. Just dont rule the world pls. Yeah the china is pretty scary too i got to admit that.

Its really nice to have the US as the lone superpower. How will our world be without them just imagine that. Theyre like our big brother if we need help theyre there to lend some help. We should stop critisizing the US for participatin in conflcts outside its territery theyre just making we are all safe.

OMG BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING US.

Find one thing in that link I posted that isn't true about the army then. You probably can't.

I have a good idea of the type of person you are, so I'll say this: the American people put Bush back in office in no small part because liberal hippies like you have no real solutions for anything. If I seem quiet, not particularly defensive, and over-confident about my views, that's why.
