.NET Runtime on Linux / Mac OS

Well I don't know if anybody has noticed the post by Woodley on the Jobs / Recruitment forum, but I joined him a couple of days ago.

Now I won't go into details, but is it possible to get .NET programs running on Linux or Mac box? I think I've read about Linux and .NET somewhere before but I may be mistaken.

If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.
