    Throat Singing

I've listened to a lot of throat singing today, especially Tuvan, and I was wondering if anyone here had any good links or books on learning it. The Tuvan and other throat singers can make sounds I didn't know humans could even come close to making; its amazing.

are you talking about throat singers from the steps of Mongolia? if so, I've seen a program about them once; throat singing was originated by step sheapards who wanted to imitate the sounds of nature with their voice.

Yes, its used by mongolians, Tuvans (southern Siberia, related to mongolians and turks), and peoples in the Chukchi peninsula and in Alaska. Its also used in the Buddhist chants, it produces the low tones (throat singing can mean you are harmonious with yourself in several tones), but Buddhist folk music doesn't use it.

Ah...I found an amazing song by a Tuvan throat singer:

This song is one man and his instrument, with no computer editing / sound effects. It barely sounds HUMAN at times .
