    Dealing w/Roomates

How do I get my roomates to stop turning the A/C down to 70 Degrees F. everynight. Nothing I do seems to work, I almost want to put one of those locks over the thermostat. Any ideas?

Learn how to sleep with your eyes open and sitting in a chair. Then just sit/sleep in front of the thermostat all night with a shotgun in your lap.
If I did your homework for you, then you might pass your class without learning how to write a program like this. Then you might graduate and get your degree without learning how to write a program like this. You might become a professional programmer without knowing how to write a program like this. Someday you might work on a project with me without knowing how to write a program like this. Then I would have to do you serious bodily harm. - Jack Klein

Have a false thermostat panel that does nothing when you change its settings.

Is it a matter of the cost or you can't sleep when it's too cold? If it's the former you could just have them pay a higher share for the electricity bill. If the latter...

    Read this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/coding4fun...e/default.aspx

Then, use that article to set up a system on your PC to check the temperature is > 70 degrees, otherwise beep very very very loudly. Perhaps output to a fire alarm.

I like this one also. Make sure the panel is metal, then just run some current to it.

To get a proper answer, we have to know why this is a problem, and why your wishes are more important than theirs.

because I wake up at 3am shivering, their rational is "we want it cold because were not going over our electricity cap so we might as well use it"

but its unbarably cold, and they are irrational.

    Wait... 70F is cold?
The word rap as it applies to music is the result of a peculiar phonological rule which has stripped the word of its initial voiceless velar stop.

Yes. Our thermostat is set somewhere around 76F, and I still use a blanket most of the day.

I wear a t-shirt when theres snow on the ground and it's around 30F with no wind. 70F is cold? that sounds pretty comfortable to me...where do you live? Guess we are used to the cold in MN.

    You have my sympathy.

Have you talked to your RA about this? You could probably get him to arbitrate an agreement on temperature that will be warmer than 70°.
