Those stupid, annoying and utterly pointless mobile phone ringtone and screen saver adverts have found their way onto the discovery channel. Is nothing sacred?
I suppose it had to happen, the kiddie oriented mush-ic channels play the damn things several times in the same ad break. Mind you, compared to some of the pulp, the ads look good in context.
On the plus side, the French voted "No".

It is worse than you think, I was on Virgin Radio yesterday, and they had a selection of Pink Floyd ringtones, ghastly monophonic stylephone renditions of Breath, Money, Learning to Fly etc.
You don't mess with Floyd, it's just not done.
We don't have the ringtone adverts on our commercial station. Maybe some of the cable stations, but I can't see those. (I have 4 channels, 2 Danish and 2 Swedish, if the weather is right, maybe another 2 but very snowy).

The French No was a coalition of very strange bedfellows who each had an internal French agenda. It did not really have anything to do with the EU Constitution at all. Just a means of signalling the French Government. I suspect Holland will have the same problem.

Not surprised the French voted no. It's quite funny really, many of them said that the constitution was too "English". And yet it's already been decided round here to vote no if and when it comes up, we think it's too "continental".
I think it's a good reflection on the nation's taste in music, and how if you advertise something enough over here anyone will buy it.
Making the EU work is like making nuclear fusion work. At a low level, small experiments work well for short periods, but scaling it up to large scale full time use is proving a lot trickier than people imagined.
The French politicians have only themselves to blame for the mess they find themselves in. They knew the vote would be about them, because they were unpopular.
Instead, they should have done the decent thing of calling a general election, and then letting whoever won that vote run the referendum as their first act. Then at least the populace would have no axe to grind with those in power and would have at least delivered an honest answer.
But no, like all grubby politicians, they hang on in there. Then when things don't go to plan, it's all slopey shoulders and mutual blame.
As sure as eggs are eggs, you'd bet Tony Bliar would be calling for a referendum right now if he were reasonably sure of a "Yes" vote from the UK. But not a chance, he knows he's gonna get hammered with a resounding "NO!" and he really doesn't want to have to go through all that if at all possible.
