I want to get into writing drivers, but I'd probably look towards something like a photo printer... there's probably much more to control there, like the temps of the chemicals, speeds of the paper, size of the paper, density printing and measurement, etc. and lots of errors to handle as well, like a drop in available water, reaching the end of paper, somebody opening the printer when they shouldn't, paper jams, etc.
I know there are other things that are as involved, but I've been working in a photo lab for almost two years now and it's given me a good perspective on the user end of these machines...

The commute looks like it would be nothing for you, me as well (I'm in Centreville), plus I already have the required security clearance.

How would one get such security clearence? would you need to come from a military background?
Or perhaps have been involved as a contractor working on certain projects in the past for a different company. I think the clearances are valid for several years (5 maybe?) after you first get them. After that you have to renew them when they need it. A complete pain in the butt... you got to remember everyplace you've ever lived and all the companies you've ever worked for for the past 7 or so years and put that on the form. Also, need to put down parents info and references (name, current address, phone number) from several people so they can have you checked out. Financial information, SSN, fingerprints, first born son (I'm kidding about that last one), etc... promise you've never done any drugs... sign in blood (kidding about that as well). A complete pain!!!!! My current job requires I have a secret level clearance, then again, everyone in our office has to have it, even the secretaries, so I'm nothin' special.Originally Posted by Quantum1024

BWHAHAHA... let me enlighten you.
1) No schmuck (not inferring that you, in fact, are a schmuck, but you get my point) can just go "get" a secret level security clearance.
2) That job requires 2-5 years of experience.
This job is 5-8 years+ away from you, and that's if you get in with the DoD between now and then.
I have top secret from when I was in the air force as an aircrew member on the kc-135.
thanks for the words of encouragement though.

basically I'm just saying I am happy to see local jobs in the area that aren't being outsourced to some obscure 3rd world country.
just a striaght shot down 28 into manassas.. rush hour kinda sucks though.me as well (I'm in Centreville)
Been to centreville many times. I like to go to that bowling alley and also that movie theatre down there. Multiplex Cinema I think it is. Freaking huge. I think Reston is the IT capiltol though if you want IT related work. (used to live there for awhile)
